Metal Nailers Offer Alternative in Wake of Lumber Shortage

OMG Roofing Products offers EdgeBox RI, an engineered metal alternative to traditional wood nailers, to provide roofing contractors with an alternative to wood nailers during an unprecedented lumber shortage and related price increase. According to the company, EdgeBox RI is a more economical option that can help improve rooftop productivity and roof performance. 

The EdgeBox RI system is made of heavy-duty 20-gauge galvanized steel with reinforcing spines that will not rot, twist, or split like traditional lumber. The product is ANSI/SPRI/FM 4435/ES-1 tested and Factory Mutual approved with an FM 1-540 perimeter rating and FM 1-360 corner rating. In addition, EdgeBox RI is compatible with most commercial roofing systems, and available in any size to match existing nailers, up to 16-inches square.

“We are seeing lots of interest and increased sales of EdgeBox RI, due to the national lumber shortage,” said Karan Patel, product manager for OMG EdgeSystems. “Lumber prices have increased by nearly 50 percent in some areas since the beginning of the year. Not only does EdgeBox RI provide a solid substrate onto which finished edge metal such as fascia systems can be attached, but each 10-foot section can be filled with insulation to provide a higher R-value than traditional wood nailers.  As such, EdgeBox RI enables contractors to offer building owners the same R-Value on the perimeter of the roof as in the field without compromising the integrity of the edge condition.

Factory Mutual Loss Prevention Data Sheet 1-49 provides specific requirements for securing multiple layers of wood nailers, which can add time and labor to the installation process. By comparison, EdgeBox RI is custom made to the required size, so there is nothing to build-up or stagger, and comes with pre-punched holes for easy installation to the substrate. EdgeBox RI is also fully compatible with OMG fascia, coping, and gutter assemblies.

Snow Retention System

Dynamic Fastener’s Dyna-Guard snow retention system is designed to be used on virtually any style metal roof. Dyna-Guard is an 8-foot long extruded aluminum rail with a T-shape profile. Dyna-Guard is installed by attaching non-ferrous clamps or mounts to a metal roof and bolting or screwing the system to clamps or mounts. Eight Dyna-Clamps with round-point stainless steel set screws and Sno-Dams are also offered. Sno-Dams attach to the back of Dyna-Guard and inhibit snow and ice from sliding underneath.  Dyna-Clips are available as a Dyna-Guard to Dyna-Clamp connection device when using unpunched Dyna-Guard. New Bracket Technology for Trapezoidal Rib Metal Roof Profiles

New Clamp Technology Designed for Nail Strip Metal Roof Profiles

New Box Rib Wall Panels Expand Design Options

Petersen expands its family of PAC-CLAD Precision Series wall panels with the introduction of the Box Rib line. The four new Box Rib wall panels feature 87-degree rib angles and a variety of rib spacing patterns.

The Box Rib architectural wall panels are 1-3/8 inches deep with a nominal 12-inch width. According to the company, they deliver design flexibility while combining bold visual effects with easy, cost-effective installation. Each of the four Box Rib profiles is offered in a no-clip fastener-flange option, or a clip-fastened panel to accommodate thermal expansion and contraction.

Architects and designers can specify one of the four panel profiles or combine multiple Box Rib panels on the same surface to create custom patterns of ribs and valleys. According to the company, Petersen’s Box Rib panels are ideal for practically any structure that requires exterior wall cladding such as schools, hospitals, banks, sports facilities, office and industrial buildings, and most other nonresidential applications, but also residential buildings.

Snap-on Fascia System for Single-Ply Applications

Gauge Tool Set Quickly Determines Type of Clamp or Bracket Needed

The LMCurbs gauge tool set was designed to help customers save time and money by quickly determining the type of clamp or bracket that is needed for a metal roofing application. There are two styles, one for the S-5! Utility Clamps and one for the five different profiles of the S-5! RibBrackets.
