Snow Retention System Works with Most Standing Seam Metal Roofs

Sno Gem's iClad Snow Retention System

Sno Gem’s iClad Snow Retention System

Sno Gem Inc. recently introduced the iClad Snow Retention System, a bar/fence system that works with most standing seam metal roofing systems.

iClad is an innovative system that attaches to the standing seam with the company’s Sno Cube clamp. It attaches to virtually any standing seam metal roofing profile with WaveLock technology, unique and stronger due to the fact that it provides three points of attachment without penetration. Sno Cube’s Silver Bullet set screws include a rounded “bullet” tip to maximize strength without compromising the paint finish or the material.

The iClad and iClad-S offer a 2- or 3-inch-high profile and can accommodate any pre-finished metal trim to match the color of your standing seam metal roof panel.

The iClad system is available in standard mill finish aluminum, allowing contractors to keep the product in stock, avoiding construction delays. Once installed, it’s easy to attach the pre-finished metal trim from the material that was used to install the roofing panels onto the face of the iBeam to produce an aesthetically pleasing and effective snow retention system that matches the standing seam metal roof.

The iClad is constructed of aircraft-grade aluminum extrusion and includes an iPlate for sliding snow and ice. No painting is required.

Preview Shingle Roofing Colors and Styles on a Home

TAMKO unveils a redesigned StyleSelect Color and Style Selector.

TAMKO unveils a redesigned StyleSelect Color and Style Selector.

TAMKO unveils a redesigned StyleSelect Color and Style Selector. The redesign empowers homeowners and builders to preview different colors and styles on sample homes or a home of their choosing.

Previously, the web application only provided users a gallery of sample homes so that they could preview TAMKO shingles on a home that was similar in style and color to their own. Now homeowners and builders can upload a photo of any home and visualize TAMKO’s entire line of residential shingles, including laminated asphalt, 3-tab strip and metal shingles. By using photos of their own home to view the different shingle styles, customers can make an informed decision on which shingles best complement their home’s exterior look. The new rendering engine is mobile and tablet-friendly, which enables the user to design from a desktop or on-the-go.

Users create their home project by uploading a photo, then setting scale by measuring a landmark such as a door height. The user will then draw a mask by tracing the outline of their roof which sets a perspective. The process is repeated for each surface of the roof. A guided tutorial provides step-by-step instructions for users.

For homeowners or builders who don’t have the time to do-it-yourself, a team of experts will mask their photo for $15. Turnaround time is typically one business day. For convenience, users can create an account to view saved work at any time. Projects can be shared with others via email or social media sites such as Twitter and Pinterest. The StyleSelect Color and Style Selector is available online or on the TAMKO ShingleStyles app for iPad.

Clean, Quiet and Safe Glass

VELUX America has introduced “Clean, Quiet & Safe Glass” for its skylights.

VELUX America has introduced “Clean, Quiet & Safe Glass” for its skylights.

VELUX America has introduced “Clean, Quiet & Safe Glass” to the roofing industry. This laminated glass will keep ENERGY STAR-certified VELUX Solar Powered Fresh Air skylights cleaner, reduce outside noise, and take the guesswork out of interpreting local building codes for the type of glass required for out-of-reach applications.

Clean: A thin coating of titanium dioxide and silicone dioxide on the exterior surface of the laminated glass will smooth the glass and, with the help of the sun, destroy organic matter deposited on skylights over time. Then, the next time it rains, this organic matter is washed away keeping the skylight glass cleaner longer.

Quiet: Laminated glass reduces outside noise by up to 25 percent when compared to a standard double pane glass and up to 50 percent more when compared to a plastic skylight.

Safe: U.S. building codes require laminated glass be used in out-of-reach applications where any point of the glass is 12 feet above the floor of the room. VELUX Clean, Quiet & Safe glass meets or exceeds this important building code requirement nationwide and also carries a 10-year warranty against hail damage on the glass itself.

In addition to its water-shedding properties, the new glass option carries a 10-year hail warranty and is superior to regular tempered glass in U-Value, UV protection and fade protection. Beginning in 2014, it will be available on most VELUX skylights and will be the standard glass option for the VELUX Solar Powered Fresh Air skylights. The new glass option is also available in Impact, Miami-Dade, White laminated and Snowload models.

The Solar Powered Fresh Air Skylight, now standard with Clean, Quiet & Safe glass, is also a No Leak Skylight and carries the VELUX 10-year installation warranty plus 20-years on glass, 10-years on product, and 5-years on blinds and controls. The units use standard VELUX engineered flashing and energy efficient LoE3 glass. VELUX solar powered skylights, along with solar powered blinds, as well as the installation costs, are eligible for a 30 percent federal tax credit.
