The most recent innovation from Huber Engineered Woods combines superior strength and stiffness, moisture resistance, and now a radiant heat barrier. The new ZIP System radiant barrier incorporates the signature ZIP System technology with radiant heat protection.

ZIP System radiant barrier combines the energy-efficiency benefits of radiant barrier with the superior moisture protection and simple installation of ZIP System sheathing. The panels are now available for national distribution.

ZIP System radiant barrier panels block up to 97 percent of radiant heat transfer which can lower attic temperatures by as much as 30 degrees. The all-in-one sheathing allows for a faster, more efficient installation, providing an instant 180-day rough dry-in. Homeowners also can reap the benefits of ZIP System Radiant Barrier, as the roof panels reduce home cooling costs up to 12 percent.*

ZIP System radiant barrier roof panels are available in 1/2-, 5/8-, and 7/16-inch thicknesses. ZIP System roof panels eliminate the need for felt paper, resulting in a more efficient building process.

As the push for more energy-efficient buildings continues, numerous building codes are now including air barrier requirements. To address these changing standards, Garland has engineered a new product line of high-performance solutions that prevent unwanted air, vapor and water from penetrating the building envelope. The Garland Aero-Block product line offers solutions for all six sides of the building enclosure, as well as for gaps in walls or between sections of walls.

This new polymer-modified-asphalt technology is available in three formats. The fluid-applied solvent-based polymer and fluid-applied water-based polymer versions can be applied by brush, spray or roller. There is also a pre-fabricated, self-adhering multi-layer membrane. The entire Aero-Block family create vapor-closed protection, meeting the requirements for a Class I air/vapor barrier.

A companion vapor-open product line, Aero-Perm, will become available later this year. Aero-Perm will offer the same capabilities as Aero-Block systems, while providing permeability to water vapor.

IKO has announced packaging changes to its GoldShield Ice & Water Protector to provide added user friendliness to roofers and product dealers.

The new GoldShield Ice & Water Protector will be available in the form of a fully enclosed, shrink wrapped film on individual rolls replacing the previous boxed roll format that was shrink wrapped by the pallet. The new film packaging is water resistant and treated for enhanced UV resistance improving the ability to store it outdoors. The packaging is also smaller in size allowing for an increased number of rolls per pallet and reducing the inventory space required for storage purposes.

Because there is no change to the product itself suppliers will be able to mix the new packaging and their existing supply. The products are totally compatible.

MFM Building Products has released a high-temperature underlayment: Ultra HT Wind & Water Seal. The self-adhering product is composed of a cool white, non-slip, cross-laminated, high density polyethylene film laminated to a rubberized asphalt adhesive system. The underlayment, which offers a 90-day UV exposure rating, is engineered for use under asphalt shingle and metal roofing systems. It comes with a split release liner for use in valleys, ridges, around chimneys and at eaves for protection against ice dams, wind-driven rain and water penetration.
