Progressive Materials Announces Plans for New Company Headquarters

Progressive Materials, a silicone roofing systems manufacturer, announced plans today to expand its operations in southeast Indiana, building a new, state-of-the-art headquarters in New Albany and creating up to 25 new jobs by 2023.

“With the highest concentration of manufacturing jobs in the U.S., Indiana has established a strong reputation for making products that are used around the world,” said Elaine Bedel, president of the Indiana Economic Development Corporation (IEDC). “Because of the state’s low-cost, tax-friendly business climate and skilled workforce, small businesses like Progressive Materials have the confidence to expand and create good jobs for Hoosiers.”

The company, which is one of the largest silicone coatings manufacturers in the United States, will invest $13.4 million to expand its New Albany-based headquarters after outgrowing its current facility at 540 Central Court. Progressive Materials will construct and equip an approximately 100,000-square-foot corporate campus at the New Albany North Industrial Park off Hausfeldt Lane with plans to be operational in the new space by December 2019. The complex will be home to Progressive Materials’ manufacturing operations, warehouse space, distribution center, sales and marketing offices and quality control laboratories. With this expansion, the company plans to enhance its customer base and complement its rapid sales growth, which surpassed $32 million in 2017 alone.

Progressive Materials, which currently has 16 full-time employees in New Albany, will begin hiring in 2019 for electrical and operator technicians, silicone-specialized chemists and administrative associates. New positions are expected to offer salaries above the county and state average wage. Interested applicants may apply online.

“The leadership at Progressive Materials is very excited about staying in Indiana for the company’s continued growth and expansion,” said Sean Stumler, president of Progressive Materials. “The move to a fully-automated, state-of-the-art facility is a huge step for our company, and everyone from the state of Indiana, city of New Albany and One Southern Indiana have been incredibly helpful throughout the process. We appreciate all the work and support that has gone into making our proposed expansion a success, and we look forward to continuing our winning strategy here in southern Indiana.”

Family owned and operated since 2011, Progressive Materials’ roof coatings and foam roofing systems are designed to reduce life-cycle costs, improve performance and increase the overall sustainability of new and existing buildings. According to the company, silicone is extremely flexible, cures rapidly, and resists oxidation, severe weather, ozone, UV rays and other chemicals that may damage roofs.

“The city of New Albany is excited to be working with Progressive Materials to not only keep the company here in the city, but also to consider the New Albany North Industrial Park as an ideal location for its new headquarters and manufacturing operation,” said New Albany Mayor Jeff Gahan. “The largely-automated, advanced manufacturing facility has extraordinary growth potential and would offer new, high-wage job opportunities to our citizens. The city will continue to assist Progressive Materials in its growth plans, for the benefit of both now and in the future.”

The IEDC offered Progressive Materials up to $240,000 in conditional tax credits based on the company’s job creation plans. These tax credits are performance-based, meaning until Hoosiers are hired, the company is not eligible to claim incentives. The city of New Albany will consider 10-year and five-year real and personal property tax abatements, respectively, at the request of One Southern Indiana.

Progressive Materials’ announcement comes on the heels of National Manufacturing Day in which 22 companies announced plans to locate in or expand in Indiana, together committing to invest more than $154 million in their Hoosier operations and create up to 1,090 new jobs over the next several years. Indiana is a leader in manufacturing, with 8,500 manufacturing facilities and the highest concentration of manufacturing jobs in the U.S., supporting one in five Hoosier jobs.

Allied Solar Products has partnered with CertainTeed to expand the distribution of its Solstice Solar System.

Dave Jenkins, national vice president of solar for Allied Solar Products, noted his parent company’s long-standing relationship with CertainTeed’s building products divisions and said extending the relationship to its solar division “builds on our roofing and solar opportunities” and is “a win for both companies and their contractor customers.

“Allied Solar always looks for ways to improve its supply chains so we can deliver popular products to as many customers as possible as quickly as possible,” said Jenkins. “The move allows us to leverage our logistics, just-in-time delivery, and dedicated solar sales teams to deliver Solstice. With one of the best warranties in the industry, this solution translates into value and peace of mind for installers and their customers.”

CertainTeed’s Solstice system combines high-quality components including modules, inverters, mounting and flashing with a single-source warranty. In addition, when installed by one of CertainTeed’s Credentialed or Master Solar Installers, CertainTeed warrants the installation workmanship on the system for up to 25 years. Considered CertainTeed’s most economical solar solution, Solstice systems are designed to maximize roof space and can be configured to best suit the needs of the client.

Mark Stancroff, director of CertainTeed Solar, said the Allied Solar Division’s sales know-how and logistical presence would complement CertainTeed’s strong brand recognition and installer base.

All of this is supported by Beacon’s Pro+ e-commerce platform that allows customers to order 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

“Solar and roofing contractors value these solutions which enable them to stand out in the marketplace,” Stancroff added. “Allied’s logistical capabilities and service platform allow them to provide a steady supply of product to contractors, making their work more efficient. Reibus International Launched as Online Marketplace for Construction Materials

John Armstrong and David Bain have founded Reibus International, an online B2B marketplace for prime, excess prime and obsolete materials used in industrial, transportation, and construction markets.

“We believe that the online channel is increasingly becoming a preferred method for buying and selling materials as traditional industries continue to invest to remove friction from their supply chains,” noted Armstrong and Bain. “Our long-term goal is to be the leading global B2B marketplace for industrial products including metals, plastics, papers, machinery, etc.”

According to the company, its strengths include the ability to develop the technology to support the marketplace and in-depth product specification and supply chain understanding. “Our online platforms allow us to match supply and demand for existing and future demand of metals while achieving greater reach, price performance and efficiency relative to the fragmented network of physical distribution centers, brokers and dealers that have traditionally served this market,” noted Armstrong and Bain. “In 2018, our initial target is to connect over 100 unique sellers to over 1,000 unique buyers through our marketplace.”

Customers include both sellers and buyers of metals. According to Armstrong and Bain, sellers and buyers include a broad mix of metal-based manufacturers ranging from large multi-national corporations, regional mid-market specialists and sole proprietors. These include primary metals producers, original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), metal service centers, and contract fabricators. Materials sold through the marketplace are used primarily in the commercial construction, commercial transportation, agriculture and RV industries.

“For sellers, our platform is designed to maximize price performance, minimize time requirements, expand market reach and reduce sales and marketing-related expenses as compared to traditional methods,” said Armstrong and Bain. “For buyers, our marketplace increases selection and market transparency, while reducing the time and investment required to search for, identify, evaluate and procure materials. A key element of our online marketplace is our proprietary search tool and materials listing process. This provides buyers and sellers with a simple to use interface that speeds up an otherwise cumbersome process.”

John Armstrong is a founder and the CEO at Reibus International. Prior to founding Reibus, he was vice president and general manager at Omnimax International.

David Bain is a founder and the chief operating officer for Reibus International. Over the past 15 years, he has assumed progressively greater responsibility in supply chain roles. For much of his career he oversaw the planning of inventory at Cott Beverages, a global beverage manufacturer. Most recently he led the supply chain for the commercial products division of Omnimax International, a building products company.
