Western Colloid Donates All-Terrain Wheelchair to Veteran

Western Colloid, a West Coast-based coatings manufacturer, donated a very special kind of wheelchair to a deserving veteran during the 2014 holiday.

“We became aware of an organization called the Independence Fund, which brings the generous support of Americans directly to the wounded war veterans that need it the most,” says Western Colloid President Gary Scholten. “The Independence Fund, among other charitable endeavors, helps distribute a very unique piece of equipment which gives those in wheelchairs the ability to climb a mountain. It’s called a Trackchair, which is like an all-terrain vehicle.”

Action Trackchair, based in Minnesota, has been making these specialized vehicles since 2008 to allow people to have the freedom to get off the normal path. These all-terrain wheelchairs allow the mobility to go to the beach, hunt, hike and fish.

“We are really proud of our employees’ participation with this donation. It’s because of their dedication and hard work that we can provide this Trackchair to a real hero. We are all excited that we found out about this special organization and wheelchair. We are honored for the opportunity to make someone’s life a little easier and maybe allow them to participate in the activities they once enjoyed.”

Roof Hugger Updates Library of Literature and Technical Tools

Roof Hugger Inc. of Lutz, Fla., has updated its library of literature and technical tools. GAF Featured on DIY Network Television Show Rev Run’s Renovation

GAF has announced its participation in two episodes of the popular DIY Network television show, Rev Run’s Renovation. The Jan. 10 episode featured the installation of GAF Camelot Lifetime Designer Shingles on Rev Run’s family home, while the Jan. 24 episode showed them being installed on the pool house.

Rev Run’s Renovation follows Joseph Ward Simmons, aka Rev Run from the successful music group, Run DMC, as he and his entire family work together to completely renovate their 9,000-square-foot New Jersey home. The show averaged more than 2.2 million viewers in its premier season last year and kicked off a new season Saturday, Jan. 3.

GAF’s inclusion within the show displays its continued support of GAF factory-certified contractors with the Master Elite Contractor logo featured throughout the episode, verbal mentions of the importance of using a Master Elite Contractor and the company’s Emmy-nominated commercials highlighting Master Elite Contractors airing during the episode.

Heaton to Oversee Atlas Roofing’s Polyiso Division

Atlas Roofing Corp. has announced Steve Heaton will oversee product sales and marketing for the polyiso division, including Atlas Roof Insulation and the Wall CI Board. He will succeed Tom Rowe, vice president—Polyiso Division—who will retire from Atlas Roofing in early 2015 after spending more than 21 years with the company.

Heaton has been in the building products and materials industry since 1986. He has served in a number of sales, marketing and management roles, including working for James Hardie Building Products for 15 years. Most recently he served as the vice president of Sales at Parex USA. Heaton spent five years at Atlas Roofing when he served as the director of Sales & Marketing for the Atlas EPS division.

A partnership between CertainTeed Corp. and advanced weather forensics company HailStrike aims to help CertainTeed-credentialed roofing contractors quickly and accurately locate homes damaged by hailstorms so they can connect with homeowners in need of roof repairs. Three services are available: HailStrike tracking, OneSite reports and AniSwath hail map. Roofers with HailStrike tracking have access to radar-based storm-tracking software that trails the heart of the storm and provides the size of hail. The OneSite tool provides site-specific information for hail activity at exact locations. The AniSwath service gives direct access to a colorized, fully animated hail swath map. AES Raptor and Premier Rail Systems Merge to Focus on Safety

Falling is easily one of the most dangerous aspects in the roofing and construction industry. When a fall occurs on a job site, it often results in serious injury or death. DCE Rooftop Solar Racking System Receives Class A Fire Rating

DCE, a sister company of Daetwyler, a globally recognized provider of industrial equipment and services, precision machinery, and mechanical and engineering consulting has announced the designation of Class A fire rating for its Eco-Top rooftop solar racking system. The company voluntarily submitted their assembly for testing through Underwriters Laboratory (UL) fire testing as part of the firm’s proactive approach to safety and quality. “Throughout its entire 40-year history in the US, the Daetwyler brand has been driven by a desire to be the best at what we do for our clients,” says Bill Taylor, President of DCE. “Our solar energy company has been committed to achieving the most stringent testing to now include UL classifications for fire safety and other compliance considerations from our very first day in business.”

The Eco-Top racking system was awarded the Class A distinction in accordance with various UL requirements. Specifically, the system meets the standards set forth in UL 1703 (2014) Section 31.2 and UL 2703 (2012) in compliance with UL 790 (2004) “Standard Test Methods for Fire Tests of Roof Covering” for low slope applications. These test results will be used to further certify the Eco-Top line as fully UL2703 compliant – a standard required in some States like California for 2015 but that will be nationwide requirements by 2016. “The UL-certification process is very detailed and takes time for testing and evaluation,” explains Taylor. “We firmly believed in obtaining this certification sooner, rather than later, so that our clients could move forward with new installations without worrying about compliance or reinstallation in the future. If we are really going to support the growth of solar in a meaningful way, the worry-free safety aspect simply must be in place for everyone we serve.”

The immediate benefit of the new UL Class A Fire Rating is that all contractors, developers, installers, and other solar industry stakeholders will have a clearly recognizable standard of quality to look for when choosing racking and mounting products. NCI Building Systems Acquires CENTRIA

NCI Building Systems Inc. (NCS), one of North America’s largest integrated manufacturers of metal products for the nonresidential building industry, has closed its previously announced acquisition of CENTRIA, a provider of architectural insulated metal panel (IMP) wall and roof systems and coil coating services, for a net cash price of $245 million. NCI intends to immediately begin cross-company integration.

As previously disclosed CENTRIA is expected to be accretive to NCI’s earnings beginning in the fourth quarter of fiscal 2015, excluding transaction related charges and amortization of short-lived intangibles, and is expected to yield annualized run-rate synergies of approximately $7 million within 18 to 24 months of closing. In addition, as a result of the CENTRIA acquisition, NCI expects to receive incremental tax basis in the assets of CENTRIA estimated to be $200 million, expected to result in reductions to NCI’s cash payments for income taxes over the next several years. After adjusting for targeted annualized synergies and the tax cash flow benefit, the adjusted purchase price is approximately 7 times CENTRIA’s trailing twelve month EBITDA as of September 30, 2014.
