Key areas of the site include an easy-to-navigate products section, toolboxes of helpful information designated for both professionals and homeowners, a color & inspiration section, and an extensive gallery of images that can be searched by either product or color.

“The updated DaVinci web site gives visitors a better overall user experience,” says Wendy Bruch, marketing manager for DaVinci Roofscapes. “The lighter color palette makes the site easier to read and the robust new design allows the site to adjust to any screen size.

Bruch reports that the new Homeowner Toolbox was added based on increased interest from consumers in synthetic roofing products. “We offer a ‘how to select a contractor’ section and also information on our product warranty and a comparison chart. This one-stop area of the site allows someone to compare our DaVinci products to both real slate and natural cedar shake products plus other synthetic roofing in the marketplace for beauty, labor requirements and product performance.”

PPG Industries Publishes ‘Building Products Coil Coatings Color Guide’

PPG Industries’ coil and building products group has published the “Building Products Coil Coatings Color Guide”, an eight-page brochure featuring 100 coatings color samples categorized according to eight product lines and five resin chemistries.

The booklet highlights 30 individual colors, ranging from regal and bright white to charcoal and solar-reflective black, for DURANAR ULTRA-COOL polyvinylidene fluoride(PVDF) coatings, DURASTAR polyester coatings and Durastar SMP (silicone-modified polyester) coatings. There are five color samples each for Duranar ULTRA-Cool SUNSTORM coatings and three-coat Duranar XL ULTRA-Cool coatings.

ULTRA-Cool coatings by PPG are formulated with proprietary infrared (IR)-reflective pigments and resin technologies that deflect solar heat from buildings, enabling them to stay cooler and consume less energy for air conditioning.

The guide features 10 Duranar VARI-COOL coatings, which combine ULTRA-Cool coatings technology with color-changing polychromatic pigments, along with 10 DURAFORM BP coatings, which are part of a new line of next-generation engineered polyester-resin-based products. Owens Corning Earns Place on Dow Jones Sustainability World Index for Fifth Year in a Row

For the fifth year in a row, Owens Corning has earned placement in the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index (DJSI World) in recognition of its sustainability initiatives. For the second straight year, Owens Corning was named the Industry Leader for the DJSI World Building Products group. Composed of global sustainability leaders, the DJSI World Index is an elite listing of the world’s largest companies based on long-term economic, environmental and social criteria.

Brochure Offers Advice about Caring for Metal Roofs’ Factory Finish

Drexel Metals has published the “Care and Maintenance Guidelines” brochure to offer advice about maintaining the long-term aesthetic and protecting properties of a metal roof’s factory finish. CertainTeed’s fourth webisode in the 2013 Living Spaces Facebook Home Makeover Video Contest, featuring the Bielfelt family of Mentor, Ohio, dives deep into the importance of superior weather-resistance and proper ventilation as part of a healthy whole-home system.

CertainTeed 5-Star Green and Master Shingle Applicator contractor, RJK Construction Co., of Willoughby, Ohio, installs Winterguard and DiamondDeck roofing underlayment as well as CertaWrap, CertaTape andCertaFlash housewrap products in the webisode to create a water- and wind-tight barrier to protect the century-old home’s original structure.

Grand prize winner of the $75,000 exterior makeover contest, the Bielfelts are the subject of a series of CertainTeed Living Spaces webisodes documenting the renovation of their 100-year-old home. The series follows the family, along with local contractors, from the planning stages of the renovation through its completion.

In the first few webisodes, the homeowner selected multiple products, including Cedar Impressions and Monogram siding, Restoration Millwork trim, EverNew decking and railing, Bufftech fence and Landmark Pro roofing. The homeowner also utilized the CurbAppeal iPad app, ColorCoach virtual swatch book and ColorView design tool, which allows homeowners to visualize how products will look on their home.

Malarkey Roofing Products Expands Commercial Sales Team

Malarkey Roofing Products has expanded its Commercial Sales team. The updates came this summer alongside the growth of the Malarkey low-slope system offerings.

Gary Collins has entered into the new role of Government Accounts Representative with Malarkey Roofing Products. Collins brings 37 years of experience in commercial built-up, SBS modified, APP modified, and single ply roofing. His previous experience includes Vice President positions at the SBA 8a certified Leon Construction and Brahma Engineering Inc. During his time with the aforementioned companies, Collins negotiated major contracts at Vandenberg Air Force Base and Travis Air Force Base, as well as oversaw the Federal Aviation Administration membrane roof repair/replace contract for the western United States. Collins holds certificates from the US Army Corps of Engineers, Construction Quality Management for Contractors, Quality Control Management, and multiple certificates from the Roofing Industry Educational Institute.

Ben Michiels has brought 19 years of commercial roofing experience to his newly promoted position of Regional Commercial Sales Manager, including owning his own commercial roofing business. Michiels has also been a member of the Construction Specifications Institute for seven years. Michiels will oversee commercial sales in the Midwest region.

Greg Maechling has joined the Malarkey team as a Commercial Sales Representative with over 12 years of experience in the roofing industry. Originally from the Los Angeles area, his industry experience includes positions with Elk Building Products, Polyglass, and Soprema. Maechling will be serving Southern California.

Boral Roofing Supports Charitable Organizations

Boral Roofing LLC, a provider of clay and concrete roof tile, is proud to support three charitable organizations in the expansion of the William Fry Drop-in Center, which serves homeless and at-risk youth in Southern Nevada. Nevada Partnership for Homeless Youth (NPHY), HomeAid Southern Nevada (HASN) and Nevada Women’s Philanthropy (NWP) have joined forces to complete a 2,600-square-foot facility expansion that broke ground Aug. 13. Boral Roofing has donated concrete roof tile for the facility through the company’s participation in HomeAid Southern Nevada, whose mission is to help build new lives for Southern Nevada’s homeless through housing and community outreach.

The expansion of the William Fry Drop-in Center, which served 5,000 cases in 2013, will increase the Nevada Partnership for Homeless Youth’s capacity for annual visits by 40%. The organization seeks to eliminate homelessness among Nevada’s youth population and to provide those it serves with opportunities for a quality future. NPHY is the only youth service provider in the state with a continuum of care extending from street outreach and 24-hour crisis intervention services to a full-time drop-in center and independent living program.

“Boral Roofing is proud to participate in such an important community project with HomeAid Southern Nevada,” said Stephenie Ireland, Boral Roofing’s Nevada Area Sales Manager and Board Member of HomeAid Southern Nevada. “The Nevada Partnership for Homeless Youth provides a vital service for the betterment of this community and deserves the support of the building industry.”

The tile donated to the project is Saxony Split Shake tile, which recreates the aesthetic of hand-hewn shakes whose benefits include superb performance and durability, low maintenance, energy efficiency and fire resistance. Cooper Roofing & Solar, a HomeAid Southern Nevada building partner, will complete the roof tile installation. Construction of the facility expansion is anticipated to be complete in October.

“We have had the great fortune to have Boral Roofing not only as a national HomeAid America sponsor, but as a generous, active member of our local Board of Directors,” said Caitlin Shea, executive director of HomeAid Southern Nevada. “We are so grateful for the Boral Roofing donation to this project. Because of this generosity and support, we are able to help Nevada Partnership for Homeless Youth double their facility space and help 40% more homeless and at-risk youth in our community.”

The 2,600-square-foot expansion brings the facility to a total of 4,000 square feet and includes the conversion of the facility’s existing administrative offices into youth service areas and a new kitchen, designed not only to serve the daily nutritional needs of the youth, but also allowing room for group learning lessons. The expansion will more than double the size of the existing center, and will also include a computer lab and staff office space, basketball court, gym, art and music rooms, and additional private areas for in-taking clients and tutoring.

Trailers Help ALL Erection & Crane Rental Offer Door-to-door Crane Service

ALL Erection & Crane Rental Corp. has added 108 new Manac specialty trailers to its fleet, a significant acquisition that broadens the company’s ability to offer complete door-to-door crane service. Of the 108 total specialty trailers, 104 feature galvanized steel decks for reduced maintenance and resistance to chips, scratches and wear, particularly corrosion caused by road salt and brine.

“We’ll see a great return on our investment in galvanized steel trailers,” said John Bacci, logistics director, ALL Family of Companies. “Over the life of a trailer, we can do a lot in our shops to extend the life of our fleet – rebuild breaks, wooden decks, electric lines, etc. But we won’t have to completely rebuild these new, galvanized units because they are just that much more durable.”

The company estimates these trailers will remain a vital part of its fleet for three times longer than regular painted trailers. “That’s a significant life-cycle upgrade,” said Bacci, “This durability will make a positive impact for our northern branches that endure brutal winters, but also for branches in the Gulf region, where ocean air can really corrode metal.”

The order includes 100 step-deck trailers, including fifty 45-foot units with close tandem wheels, which are ideal for accompanying the company’s “taxi crane” fleet to job sites. “Taxi cranes,” a daily crane rental fleet, require greater mobility and maneuverability, and are meant especially for city work. Another 50 of the Manac trailers were 48-foot spread axle units. These are preferred for longer hauls and heavier loads. “With these spread axle units, we can get 20,000 pounds per axle anywhere in the United States, so long as we don’t exceed a maximum weight of 80,000 pounds for the entire load,” explains Bacci.
