Permeable Pavers Reduce Storm Water Runoff

Black Locust Lumber offers ProFlow Permeable Pavers, a patent-pending design utilizing Black Locust, which is naturally rot-resistant. Black Locust Permeable Proflow Pavers panels are available in a variety of models, including Roofline, a lightweight version ideal for green-blue roof applications. In storm water management applications, the pavers reduce runoff volume and rate, filter pollutants, and help restore and recharge groundwater resources while reducing the heat island effect. Permeable Proflow Pavers can satisfy prerequisites and earn points towards LEED, BREEAM, and Living Building Challenge certifications.

The Black Locust paver panels or setts (12 blocks each) are attached to a recycled wire mesh that lays flat for easy installation. The paver panels can be laid next to each other for quick and simple installation over large areas. The 3⁄8-inch joints are then fastened with joint filler.

According to the company, ProFlow Permeable Pavers have a life span greater than 50 years. The light color and material properties of Black Locust make it a cooler alternative to concrete and other landscape surfaces, thus reducing the heat island effect. All Models are ADA compliant with the exception of the Hi Flow model.

Stone Coated Steel Cool Roof System Enhances Energy Efficiency

The Boral Steel Cool Roof System, manufactured by Boral Roofing, is a high-performance roofing solution designed to keep the home warmer in winter and cooler in summer. The system consists of Boral Steel Stone Coated Steel roofing, a lightweight roofing material at just 1.5 pounds per square foot which boasts the structural strength of steel, along with three additional key components: Boral MetalSeal Underlayment, BoralElevated Batten System (EBS), and a variety of hip and ridge ventilation products. Combined, these elements work in concert to greatly enhance the roof’s energy efficiency performance, providing the homeowner with a lasting roof as well as meaningful return on investment.

Notably, the Boral Steel Cool Roof System incorporates Above Sheathing Ventilation (ASV). Hot air rises, creating a natural convection effect, and is then exhausted through ventilation with continuous airflow across the roof deck. The result is a cooler attic and living space in the home below. According to the company, no matter what installation method – whether direct-to-deck or EBS battens, a Boral Steel Stone Coated roof with ASV can help provide improved energy savings.

Reusable Parapet Anchors

Malta Dynamics introduces its reusable parapet anchor, designed specifically for flat roofs surrounded by parapet walls. These parapet anchors are fully adjustable and can be installed on wall thicknesses from 2.36 inches all the way up to 14.1 inches. Parapet walls must be at least 9 inches high to install this anchor, which supports workers up to 310 pounds.

This anchorage device is non-penetrating and requires no tools to install. The dual tightening handles allow for even force distribution, and rubber protective pads eliminate damage to the parapet wall.

“Our parapet anchors are so easy to install, you can be up and running in just a few minutes,” said Damian Lang, owner and CEO of Malta Dynamics. “They provide a great cost savings because these reusable anchor points can be transferred from one jobsite to another.”

Low-Temperature SBS Membranes Designed to Extend Roofing Season

Polyglass U.S.A., Inc., announces Elastoflex SA V Polar Base and Elastoflex SA P Polar Cap. Optimized for performance in colder conditions, these resilient roofing membranes save on labor and provide the opportunity to extend roofing season.

Elastoflex SA V Polar Base and Elastoflex SA P Polar Cap allow for roof system installation in temperatures that are between 25°F – 60°F (4°C – 16°C). Designed for long-term performance, Elastoflex SA V Polar Base is fiberglass-reinforced for excellent dimensional stability. Elastoflex SA P Polar Cap has a UV-stabilized granule surface and is polyester-reinforced for exceptional puncture and tear resistance.

“It’s the perfect product to extend your roofing season by several weeks and continue generating revenue” said Polyglass Regional Sales Leader Art Jones.

According to the company, these premium membranes are manufactured with ADESO Dual-Compound Self-Adhered Technology, and they provide a cleaner installation, improve application speed, and eliminate the need for torches. Both base and cap sheets use an SBS (elastomeric) formulation on the top weathering side of the reinforcement and an aggressive self-adhesive formulation on the bottom side.

The products have unique qualities that improve efficiency and performance, states the manufacturer. Elastoflex SA V Polar Base is finished with laylines for ease of application. Elastoflex SA P Polar Cap features patent pending SEALLap Ultra and patented FASTLap for immediate and more effective bonding of side and end lap seams, saving time and labor costs.

Synthetic Underlayment Available in Carbon Black

Continental Materials, Inc. (CMI) introduces their new Xtreme-Weather Warrior BLACK. CMI’s synthetic underlayment offering has expanded to offer more options to their customers and end users.

Mark Hinterlong, Director of Underlayments, stated, “In response to market pressures and the need to continue to innovate, CMI is introducing Xtreme-Weather Warrior BLACK. The Xtreme-Weather Warrior family of products focuses on the price sensitive segment of the market that is looking for solid performance at the best possible price. X-Weather Warrior BLACK offers customers a way to save money and still get the great performance of Weather Warrior.”

“Making the product in black saves on the very expensive UV additive as the carbon black helps to do the job of the UV inhibitor without diminishing physical properties. CMI passes this savings through to give our customers more opportunities to compete and to expand new customer segments (i.e. builder).” added Mike DiStefano, EVP/COO.

The new Xtreme-Weather Warrior BLACK is available now in direct container orders and will be available out of domestic inventory in the near future.

Induction Welding Tool Features Automatic Calibration

OMG Roofing Products introduces a new RhinoBond tool with OptiWeld Technology, providing automatic calibration on membrane up to 80 mils thick. OMG’s exclusive OptiWeld Technology optimizes the energy required to generate consistent, high performing bonds with installed OMG RhinoBond Plates.

“While the RhinoBond System is already easy-to-use, roofing contractors frequently ask about a simplified calibration process,” said Patrick O’Connor, RhinoBond product manager.  “OptiWeld Technology eliminates the manual calibration process by optimizing the temperature of the RhinoBond Plate during the welding cycle to assure the best bond possible. The process saves valuable time and labor for contractors during the daily set-up process.”

In addition to OptiWeld Technology, the new tool features an LED touch screen interface that controls the tool’s functionality. From the home screen, contractors can set a preferred language (currently English or Spanish, with other languages to be added in the future), adjust the brightness of the display screen, set the sound level and desired tone, as well as review and adjust the OptiWeld settings if necessary.

“We wanted to ensure that contractors could also manually adjust the tool for specific circumstances,” said O’Connor, “so we also built that functionality into the tool to mimic the look and feel of RhinoBond Classic tools.”

OptiWeld Tools also track completed weld-cycles so that contactors can monitor daily productivity. In addition, contractors can troubleshoot from the menu and easily access the on-line Owner’s Manual if necessary. Other updates for the tool include a newly designed, ergonomically-friendly grip that provides operator comfort and enhanced protection for the activation trigger, more robust electronics for improved tool reliability, and a bold new graphic look that differentiates RhinoBond with OptiWeld from the thousands of RhinoBond Classic tools already in the market.

The new tool weighs 21 pounds (9.6 kg) and operates on 110V and 220V power sources for global use. Each tool comes with six magnetic cooling clamps, and a durable carrying case that protects the induction tool when not in use. Using a 12-gauge RhinoBond Power Cord (sold separately), the RhinoBond tool can be operated up to 100-feet (30 m) from the power source.

The RhinoBond System is designed for installing TPO and PVC roofing membranes and is approved for use by leading roof system manufacturers globally. The System uses advanced induction welding technology to bond roofing membranes directly to specially coated plates used to secure the insulation to the deck. The result is a roofing system with improved wind performance that requires fewer fasteners, plates, seams, and does not penetrate the new membrane. Since it was introduced in 1998, nearly 3 billion square feet (278 million square meters) of membrane have been installed with the RhinoBond System in 38 countries around the globe.

Custom Single-Ply Accessories

New custom single-ply accessories from Mule-Hide Products Co. Inc. make it easy for contractors to deliver professional-looking TPO and PVC roofing systems when the aesthetic of the roof is key and accessories in standard sizes and configurations will not work.

The new program is an extension of the company’s existing collection of prefabricated accessories. Designed for use on unusually sized or shaped roof protrusions that will not accommodate standard accessories, the custom accessories provide a neater, more polished appearance than is possible with field wrapping.

Seven types of accessories are available – round boots (split and closed), square tube wraps (split and closed), conical boots (split and closed), scuppers (throughwall and overflow), curbs, breather vents (one-way and two-way), and sub base and boot assemblies.

Accessories for TPO roofing systems are available in White, Tan, Gray and the five TPO Colorway colors – Patina Green, Medium Bronze, Rock Brown, Slate Gray and Terra Cotta. Accessories for PVC roofing systems are available in White, Tan and Gray.

To request a quote, contractors can complete an easy-to-use order form, specifying the roofing system type, the accessory dimensions needed, and the color desired. A grid section allows contractors to sketch protrusions to provide additional details. Completed accessories are typically shipped within three days of order placement.

Breather vents, sub base and boot assemblies, and custom-drawn accessories are not approved for use in projects seeking a Mule-Hide system warranty.

Balcony Roof Window Available in Smaller Size

VELUX introduces the Cabrio Balcony Roof Window MK19, which is designed to provide a cost-effective alternative for homeowners looking to open up attics with low, angled ceilings. According to the company, the new size is 20 percent smaller in width than the standard Cabrio Balcony and costs 35 percent less.

“VELUX is pleased to expand the Cabrio product line and offer a budget-friendly alternative to homeowners wanting to add natural light, fresh air and a private balcony as part of an attic renovation” said Ross Vandermark, director of national product management for VELUX North America. “Installers will also find the smaller size is easier to lift to the roof, while the framing and installation requirements remain the same.”

The Cabrio Balcony MK19’s rough opening size is 32 inches by 101 inches, compared to the Cabrio Balcony PK19, which has a rough opening of 39.5 inches by 101 inches. Both have a clear lacquer wooden interior frame and gray aluminum exterior cover.

According to the company, Cabrio Balcony Roof Windows are prime options for finished attics because they provide expansive views and abundant natural light and open in seconds into a private balcony, adding fresh air and a rooftop retreat. When closed, the product is flush with the roof, making it a seamless addition to the roofline.
