New High-Density Polyiso Cover Board Offers Grade 1 Compressive Strength

Johns Manville (JM) introduces its ProtectoR HD High Density Polyiso Cover Board. According to the manufacturer, it provides excellent protection and can save time and expense for contractors. With a closed cell polyiso foam core and inorganic coated glass facers, this high-density cover board has a Grade 1 compressive strength and an R-value of 2.5. The product offers excellent resistance to moisture, hail, wind uplift and puncture, plus its light weight makes it easy to handle.

According to the company, the product has the lowest fastening rates in the market for a HD polyiso cover board — up to 50 percent fewer fasteners are needed to achieve FM I-90. As an example, it takes only eight fasteners per 4-foot-by- 8-foot board with adhered reinforced membrane (TPO, PVC, EPDM-R, mod bit) applications over a minimum 22 gauge steel or structural concrete deck to achieve FM 1-90 performance.

White Mod-Bit Cap Sheets Offer Superior Granule Embedment

Polyglass U.S.A. Inc. announces important new updates to Polyfresko, a highly-reflective, white modified bitumen membrane cap sheet used as the final layer in a multi-ply roof system or as a flashing membrane. 

According to the manufacturer, independent laboratory testing confirms Polyfresko’s superior granule embedment and documents its aged reflectivity performance. Granule embedment was tested using ASTM D4977 Standard Test Method for Granule Adhesion to Mineral Surfaced Roofing by abrasion. The recently completed three-year aged reflectivity testing was conducted in three different climate zones, and demonstrated that Polyfresko maintains reflectivity performance over time. The product was deemed suitable for most Cool Roof specifications due to Polyfresko’s initial and aged reflectivity and emissivity performance. The laboratory testing results enabled Polyfresko to gain Energy Star Certification.

Polyfresko is manufactured with proprietary CURE Technology, a thin film technology infused with ceramic microspheres, ultraviolet (UV) stabilizers, and proprietary resins. This increases weatherability and decreases maintenance costs by “locking-in” the granules, so the high-performing Polyfresko membrane maintains reflectivity performance over time, decreases UV degradation, and increases abrasion and impact resistance. 

In addition, all Polyfresko products are now manufactured with FASTLap technology, a patented granule-free end lap that helps make the membrane watertight and increases speed of installation. Polyfresko is available in Polyglass’s APP (Atactic Polypropylene) and SBS (Styrene-Butadiene-Styrene) formulations and is adhered to the roof deck or other approved substrates by torching or self-adhered application.

Open Joint Cladding System Offers Comprehensive Weatherization for Open Siding

Benjamin Obdyke Inc. launches its fully comprehensive, UV-rated Open Joint Cladding System including InvisiWrap UV, HydroFlash UV+ and Batten UV. 

InvisiWrap UV is a completely unprinted, high-performance black nonwoven housewrap. Designed for the best possible aesthetic appeal, the product is matte black to avoid competing with other visual elements of open joint architecture. According to the manufacturer, it provides superior water hold out, ideal vapor permeability, and durability. Engineered for maximum UV exposure, InvisiWrap UV can be used with siding openings of up to 2 inches and has a UV of rating of up to 12 months before siding installation.

HydroFlash UV+ self-adhered flashing utilizes an aggressive acrylic adhesive for extreme environmental conditions. Asphalt Shingles Feature New Proprietary Polymer Technology

Atlas Roofing Corporation announced the launch of its StormMaster Core4 Enhanced Polymer Technology, which is available exclusively in Atlas StormMaster Shake and StormMaster Slate shingles. 

In the early 1990s, Atlas was one of the first companies to manufacture polymer-modified asphalt shingles, known as SBS (Styrene Butadiene Styrene) asphalt technology. According to the manufacturer, Core4 moves beyond SBS to a more enhanced, proprietary polymer technology.

“Atlas has changed the industry benchmark for what an asphalt shingle should be,” said Paul Casseri, product manager for Atlas Roofing. “In other words, we just raised the bar really high.”

As its name implies, StormMaster Core4 Enhanced Polymer Technology consists of four key features:

1. PolyCore Technology is the science and engineering behind Core4. Made from proprietary enhanced virgin polymers, shingles with Core4 are stronger and longer-lasting, allowing them to perform better with increased consistency and reduced variability. 

2. FlexCore Technology keeps shingles flexible in cold weather. Because of their elasticity, these shingles exceed the industry’s standard tear strength by 50 percent and lay flatter during installation so they seal more effectively. They’re also less susceptible to tearing and cracking, which can lead to blow offs, leaks and compromised long-term roof stability.

3. WeatherCore Technology gives shingles the durability they need to resist damage from hail and high winds. StormMaster shingles with Core4 pass the UL 2218 Class 4 Impact Rating and offer the highest wind warranty in the industry, with up to a 150-mph wind limited warranty with special application on StormMaster Shake.

4. ThermalCore Technology mitigates the effects of shingle expansion and contraction due to temperature change, also known as thermal shock. Thanks to this enhancement, shingles with Core4 are less prone to thermal stress degradation, which can lead to premature shedding of granules, resulting in accelerated aging and deterioration of the asphalt shingle system. 

“These enhanced polymers, at a molecular level, are more advanced in our StormMaster shingles than in any other shingle on the market,” said Stan Bastek, national sales director for Atlas Roofing. 

According to the manufacturer, the proof is in the decades of laboratory and field tests. “Results prove that polymer-modified shingles perform better than standard asphalt technology,” Casseri explained. “Our research also shows that starting with a controlled virgin polymer is best versus recycled content, which can adversely affect the shingle’s lifespan.”

Core4 is available within the Atlas premium StormMaster Shake and StormMaster Slate shingle lines, which provide architectural style along with the durability to stand up to the toughest weather conditions. StormMaster shingles also feature the power of Scotchgard Protector by 3M, which resists the black streaks caused by algae.

New Architectural Shingles Feature Impact Resistance, Reinforced Nail Zone

IKO introduces the new Nordic performance shingle line. Available in nine high-definition colors for maximum curb appeal, these heavy-duty laminated performance architectural shingles are specially constructed with a unique combination of superior wind- and impact-resistant features, making them one of the top performing asphalt shingles on the market.

New Line of Composite Siding Features the Appearance of Cedar Shakes

DaVinci Roofscapeshas launched a new line of composite siding. Featuring the appearance of authentic cedar shakes, DaVinci Hand-Split Shake Siding products are available in eight colors. 

“We’ve taken all our composite roofing manufacturing expertise and created a durable, aesthetically-pleasing siding product that will not deteriorate like real wood,” says Michael Cobb, president and chief marketing officer of DaVinci Roofscapes. “It’s a natural progression for our company’s capabilities to provide low-maintenance composite siding to the marketplace.

Modified Bitumen Membrane Meets All North American Reflectivity Codes and Standards

These new-generation SG cap sheets build upon the success of SOPREMA’s reflective roofing products currently on the market.
