New Coating Line Includes Silicone and Acrylic Elastomeric Products

ALSAN CoatingsSoprema Inc. launches a new collection of silicone and acrylic products under the brand name of ALSAN Coatings. ALSAN Coatings are ideal for maintaining and extending the life of existing roofs by protecting them from natural weathering.

The ALSAN Coatings line is comprised of:

  • ALSAN Coating SIL 402, a low-VOC, high-solids, single-component silicone roof coating that forms a durable weatherproof coating for exceptional UV protection and resistance to standing water. This maintenance coating is intended for application over existing single-ply (TPO, PVC, EPDM and CSPE), modified bitumen, BUR, and metal roofing systems and/or approved existing coatings.
  • ALSAN Coating AC 401, a high-quality, plasticizer-free, water-based, acrylic elastomeric roof coating that is tested in accordance to ASTM D-6083.     Granulated Self-Adhered Roofing Underlayment Features Slip-Resistant Surface

    RhinoRoof Granulated Self-Adhered Roofing Underlayment The RhinoRoof brand of synthetic roofing underlayment now includes comprehensive roof deck protection.     New Powered Pallet Truck Offers Higher Lift Capacity

    Combilift, the material handling solutions provider, has launched a new high capacity powered pallet truck – the Combi-PPT.

    The powered pallet truck comes with standard lift capacities of 3,000 kg and 6,000 kg, with higher capacity models from 7,000kg to 16,000kg available on request. It is a further addition to the Irish company’s growing pedestrian range with the optional operator’s platform enabling stand-on or walk behind operation.

    The Combi-PPT includes a feature common to all Combilift’s pedestrian models: its unique, patented multi-position tiller arm.     Smog-Reducing Granules Harness the Power of the Sun to Improve Air Quality

    The 3M Industrial Mineral Products Division recently launched 3M Smog-Reducing Granules to help remove smog pollution (nitrogen oxides or NOx) using roofing shingles. Integrated throughout a shingle’s surface, 3M’s roofing granules are designed with a specialized photocatalytic coating applied to the base mineral. The specialized coating on the granule is activated by the sun’s UV rays, while blending inconspicuously into various shingle color combinations. As sunlight hits the shingles containing the smog-reducing granules, radicals are generated and transform nitrogen oxide gases into water-soluble ions, improving air quality. According to the company, this smart solution for pollution mitigation can help communities contribute toward their NOx emission reduction efforts.

    “3M is leading the way with roofing technology solutions for improving environmental impacts on human health and welfare,” said Frank Klink, senior laboratory manager, 3M. “The roofing granules are a first for residential asphalt shingles. The new 3M granules will help roofing manufacturers develop high quality, aesthetically-pleasing shingles that can turn any roof into an active smog reducing catalyst, essentially becoming smog’s worst enemy.”

    To prove out the technology, 3M submitted granule and shingle samples to Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory for evaluation. Performance testing occurred using challenge gasses in a reaction chamber. Downstream of the system, NOx concentrations were recorded in real time, prior to, during, and after UV illumination. According to the company, the testing validated the efficacy of 3M’s photocatalytic materials in reducing smog and contributing towards air purification.

    Water Seal Waterproofing Treatment for Use on Brick and Concrete

    New Mortar Sentry Water Seal waterproofing treatment from Mule-Hide Products Co. produces a water-repellant surface on masonry and concrete, extending the service lives of chimneys, walls and other surfaces.

    Mortar Sentry is designed for use on alkaline materials, including brick, mortar, concrete block, cultured stone, sandstone and concrete. It can be applied to horizontal and vertical surfaces. It is not recommended for use on non-silicate natural stone, such as limestone or dolomite.

    Mortar Sentry penetrates below the surface of brick and concrete, chemically reacting with the alkalines and silicas there to create a barrier that locks moisture out while allowing trapped moisture to escape. In brick structures, this waterproofing reduces the movement cracks caused when bricks absorb moisture and expand. In concrete structures, it helps prevent the accelerated aging caused when trapped moisture freezes during the winter or is exposed to high summer temperatures.

    The treatment also helps prevent the rusting of concrete reinforcement, protects against the growth of mold and mildew, and eliminates the primary cause of efflorescence – the white powder left on brick and concrete when trapped water evaporates and leaves behind deposits of dissolved salts.

    Because Mortar Sentry saturates brick and masonry – rather than simply leaving a film on the surface – it does not wear away when exposed to the elements. The original color and texture of the surface are retained.

    Mortar Sentry is easily applied using a low-pressure, garden-type sprayer or a brush or roller.

    The line includes two formulas. Mortar Sentry Water Seal 10 is recommended for use on vertical surfaces. Mortar Sentry Water Seal 15 provides the additional durability that horizontal surfaces require.

    Both Mortar Sentry products are packaged in 1-gallon jugs and 5-gallon pails.

    New Insulation Offers High Thermal Efficiency, Minimal Thickness

    Kingspan OPTIM-R Kingspan OPTIM-R is a next-generation insulation comprising rigid vacuum insulation panels (VIP) with a microporous core, which is evacuated, encased and sealed in a thin, gas-tight envelope to give outstanding R-values and an ultra-thin insulation solution.     Redesigned Roof Hatches Offer Higher Insulation Value
