Single-Component, Solvent-Free Flashing Designed for Quick, Durable Roof Repairs

Kemper System America Inc. introduces Kemperol 1K-LF Flashing, designed for quick, durable roof repairs. Unlike most other roof repair products, it is a solvent-free, low-odor system that adheres to most substrates without a primer, and is fully reinforced for more durable waterproofing protection.

According to the manufacturer, the single-component, silane-based waterproofing can be applied at temperatures above 41 degrees Fahrenheit, even in humid conditions. The liquid flashing fully adheres to roofing materials including most single-ply membrane roofing systems. The reinforced flashing system is rain-fast in about two hours and walkable after about 16 hours. Any unused resin can be stored for later use.

“Contractors need a versatile, easy-to-use roof repair product that delivers high value for customers,” said Andreas H. Wiggenhagen, president of Kemper System America. “Because leaks can occur long before a roof replacement is required, repairs with Kemperol 1K-LF Flashing can help building managers delay a major capital investment while reducing the headaches of tenant complaints.”

The product is ideal for a variety of common roof leaks such as around skylights, gutters and drains, pipes and other roof penetrations, as well as at corners, and along seams in sheet products. It can also be used for balcony repair and retrofit projects.

According to the company, the UV-stable Kemperol 1K-LF waterproofing resin can be applied by brush or roller. A special Kemperol fleece reinforcement is then embedded into the wet resin and coated with more resin to form a seamless membrane, particularly around complex details. The fleece-reinforced flashing system can also bridge small cracks and remains permanently elastic so it can compensate for building movements.

32-Inch Industrial Tubular Skylight

Elite Solar Systems releases its 32-inch Industrial Tubular Skylight for open-ceiling installations in large spaces such as warehouses, truck bays, storage rooms and manufacturing areas. Included is a high-impact acrylic dome, which locks into an 1100-O aluminum dome ring; one-piece seamless flat or curb flashing; a scatter disk; two 24-inch reflective anodized aluminum rigid light tubes; a one-piece dual-lens prismatic domed diffuser and brushed aluminum ring; flashing sealant; aluminum foil tape; and screws to install the flashing to the roof, the dome to the flashing and to connect the light tube(s).

The .220-inch-thick rooftop dome comprises light-transmission, nonyellowing material with UV stabilizers and is OSHA fall-protection certified. To eliminate stress and increase long-term durability, the dome locks to the ring and is leak protected with sealant. Aluminum flashing is available for industrial or commercial applications on flat or metal roofs. Choose either flat (.125 inches thick) or curb (.80 inches) for wood or metal build-ups by the installer. The product is manufactured with 1100-0 aluminum, and the durable 4-inch-wide base flange secures against leaks.

Also manufactured from light-transmission, nonyellowing high-impact prismatic acrylic with UV stabilizers, the scatter disk helps distribute light evenly throughout the room. According to the manufacturer, it eliminates sharp sun and the rainbow effect, and also captures sunlight from low angles into the light tube.

Light tubes are built to maximize reflectivity and resistance to moisture, corrosion and extreme temperatures. Dust seals, placed on either end of the light tubes, are designed to prevent bug, dirt and air infiltration; they are manufactured with polypropylene weatherstrip pile and 3M adhesive backing.

Optional are a security bar at roof level and, inside, a wire suspension kit for additional support and a ceiling flange, which connects between the tube and the ceiling for enhanced aesthetics. The assembly is warrantied through Elite for 25 years against cracking, peeling and yellowing.

“Our new 32-inch Industrial Tubular Skylight will help transform dark warehouses and storerooms into bright workplaces, enhancing employee working conditions and productivity,” said Jované Estrada, general manager for Elite Solar Systems, based in Chandler, Arizona.

Coil Coatings Available in New Color Palette

Sherwin-Williams unveils a new architect-inspired color palette, Fluropon Architect Series, created by architects who attended the company’s “Color Mixology” event during the AIA Conference on Architecture 2019 in Las Vegas. The private event brought together hundreds of architects who helped to create 10 newly developed colors of Fluropon 70 percent PVDF architectural metal coatings.

“We are thrilled to be unveiling these colors that architects actually created through our interactive color experience at AIA,” said Mike Bourdeau, President of Coil Coatings at Sherwin-Williams. “At Sherwin-Williams, we work to provide architects with endless color possibilities for their projects and Color Mixology was a fun and engaging way for architects to experience color like never before.”

Sherwin-Williams selected 10 unique colors of the hundreds created by architects during Color Mixology and matched them in various Fluropon 70 percent PVDF systems for exterior metal architecture. This special edition color series incorporates a wide range of color, texture and effects. Colors range from solids, to micas, to color-shifting, and each color tells a unique story.

Two of the colors highlighted in the Fluropon Architect Series include Emerald and Moonlight. Emerald, by Rebecca Blake of SmithGroup Los Angeles, has a slight color shift from blue to green and was inspired by California’s coastal colors. Moonlight, by Richard Cabrera of Marnell Architecture Las Vegas, includes blue and red influences that create vibrancy that pops in muted desert landscapes.

New Self-Sealing Snow Guard Designed for Metal Roofs

National Nail introduces the STINGER Mini SnowGuard for halting dangerous sliding ice and snow on metal roofs. The Mini SnowGuard features a cutting-edge, time-saving design, with a self-sealing gasket system that requires no silicone, eliminating the mess and cleanup associated with sealants. Additionally, the Mini SnowGuard’s patented weathertight gasket system allows for installation at any temperature.

According to the manufacturer, eliminating silicone offers an installation that’s up to 60 percent faster compared to traditional snow guard products. The product is designed to be easy to install; just place the SnowGuard on the weather-tight gasket, set the SnowGuard at the desired point on the roof, and secure with the three 1.5-inch x #10 neoprene washered screws included. Even estimating the number of Mini SnowGuards for a roof is easy thanks to STINGER’s project calculator, available at www.STINGERWORLD.com.

“Sliding ice and snow is unpredictable and incredibly hazardous to people or objects near the perimeter of a metal roof,” said Roger Szotko, STINGER® Product Manager, National Nail. “The Mini SnowGuard system greatly reduces the risk of dangerous sliding ice and snow and can be installed quickly, easily and in any temperature for instant protection.”

Mini SnowGuards are made in the USA and are available in 12 colors and a clear finish, offering stylish, highly durable protection that complements any metal roof. Plus, Mini SnowGuards are covered by a Roof-Time Warranty: as long as they are installed properly, they are covered for the life of the roof. Proper installation requires the correct quantity based on the project calculator be installed in the correct pattern using the weather-tight gasket and instructed mounting hardware. The use of silicone or other mounting hardware will void the warranty coverages. Each box of STINGER Mini SnowGuards includes 50 Mini SnowGuards, 50 Weather-tight Gaskets and 150 All-Weather Coated Screws.

New Aluminum-Framed, Monumental Glass Skylight System

EXTECH/Exterior Technologies Inc. expands its skylight product offering with a new SKYGARD 2500 Series aluminum-framed, monumental glass skylight system. Available in pyramid, single slope and ridge configurations, EXTECH’s new skylight complements commercial, institutional and industrial building designs.

“Our skylight not only supports projects’ daylighting design strategies for occupant comfort and wellness, but also cost-effective fabrication, installation and maintenance. Most notably, the SKYGARD 2500 is engineered with separate gutters to control condensation and leakage,” said Jim Leslie, general manager of EXTECH.

All of EXTECH’s systems are manufactured at its facility in Pittsburgh. The SKYGARD 2500 skylight system accepts glass up to 1-5/16 inches thick, including monolithic or insulated glass units. Optional glass coatings and custom silk-screen patterns help to diffuse the direct top-lighting and to control unwanted solar heat gain.

EXTECH’s 2500 SKYGARD skylight is offered as a silicon butt-glazed system to accommodate both intermediate joints between glazing panels, and joints at the sills. Conventional aluminum cover caps also are available.

The new SKYGARD 25000 skylight system has passed industry-standard testing for air infiltration per ASTM E-283 to 12 psf and water infiltration per ASTM D-331 to 15 psf. Structural performance testing demonstrated the system can meet or exceed ASTM E-330 deflection of less than L/250 at 60 psf.

Contributing to project performance and sustainable design goals, the system uses recycled aluminum as standard in 3-, 5- and 8-inch framing depths to accommodate projects of all sizes. The aluminum framing can be thermally improved and finished in a durable anodize, baked enamel or high-performance PVDF fluoropolymer coatings. After its useful life as part of the skylight, the metal is 100 percent recyclable.
