Berry Plastics Co., makers of the TYPAR Weather Protection System, recently launched Surround VR Underlayment, a synthetic roofing underlayment that reduces the amount and weight of material needed for roofing jobs. One roll of Surround VR covers the same area as five rolls of 30-pound felt, yet weighs seven times less. The waterproof product, which was developed for shingles, shakes, tile, slate and metal roofs, performs in temperatures ranging from -40 to 240 F. In cold temperatures, the material will not crack or wrinkle, which helps ensure smooth installs. In warm temperatures, its heat-reflecting, gray-colored surface reduces heat buildup on the roof. Surround VR withstands up to six months’ exposure to UV light, as well as high winds and storms experienced by coastal regions.
