U.S. manufacturer Gutterglove Inc. announced that it has received a broad patent for its proprietary V-Bend Technology (VBT) that allows its stainless steel micro mesh gutter guards to be suspended over a gutter without the need of a metal support. This allows the gutter guards to be manufactured for significantly less cost than their competitors and opens up the door for global distribution.

Stainless steel micro mesh gutter guards are not mainstream in gutter and roofing supply stores because of their high cost to manufacture, prohibiting store buyers from wanting to carry them. However, CEO and inventor of Gutterglove’s gutter covers, Robert Lenney has found a way to bring the price down.

Similar to corrugations in metal roofing materials to give them strength to span roof rafters, corrugations are put in the stainless steel mesh so they can span gutters without the need of high-cost metal supports.

Already, Lenney’s gutter covers are available at several ABC Supply roofing supply stores in the U.S. He hopes to be distributed throughout their entire chain by the end of summer.

Typical pro-install stainless steel micro mesh gutter guards can cost the contractor as much as $5 per foot. Contractors can now buy Lenney’s VBT gutter guards right around $2 per foot from building stores, and that’s with the store reaping a 30 percent gross profit margin.

Gutterglove has been manufacturing stainless steel micro mesh gutter guards since 2003 and has several brands, including the Gutterglove Pro. Gutterglove is also doing its part in stimulating the American economy by transitioning manufacturing from China to the US over the last few years.

All of Gutterglove’s gutter protection systems offer high-performance as they keep leaves, pine needles and tiny roof sand grit out of a rain gutter.

One of the contractor brands that is harnessing the VBT is the LeafBlaster Gutterguard. One reason why contractors like LeafBlaster is because of its ability to attach to a wide variety of gutter and roof types.

The back of LeafBlaster can be easily bent up or down to fit any gutter and roof, without compromising the rigidity of the cover. LeafBlaster will fit on any roof, including asphalt shingle, standing-lock metal seam, stone-coated steel or flat membrane roofs.

Lenney filed a patent application for a special clip that allows a self-regulating heat cable to attach to the top of the mesh. This converts the cover into a heated gutter guard and can now melt icicles, ice dams and snow loads.

ABC Supply Acquires Assets of Western Roofing Supply

Building products distributor ABC Supply Co. Inc. has acquired the assets of Western Roofing Supply Co. Inc., a roofing supply distributor in Minneapolis, Minn.

Founded in 1923, Western Roofing Supply has a single location, at 2727 26th Ave. S. It will become the newest ABC Supply branch and the company’s fifth in the Twin Cities metropolitan area.

The store supplies area contractors with a wide selection of roofing materials for residential, commercial and industrial applications. That offering will soon be expanded to include windows, siding and gutters, says Jim Welch, vice president of ABC Supply’s Midwest Region.

Located midway between the downtown areas of Minneapolis and St. Paul, the new branch complements ABC Supply’s existing facility in St. Paul.

“It will allow us to provide more seamless service to contractors working in the central part of the metropolitan area, giving them convenient access to the products and support they need,” Welch says.

ABC Supply’s other Twin Cities-area branches are in Coon Rapids, Maple Plain and Savage.

ABC Supply Opens Additional Branches on Opposite Sides of the Country

Building products distributor ABC Supply Co. Inc. has opened additional branches on opposite sides of the country—one in Cumberland, Md. and the other in Sacramento, Calif.

The Cumberland location serves contractors in the western Maryland and south central Pennsylvania markets where ABC Supply has not previously had a presence. The branch in Sacramento is the second in the area and provides contractors working on the south side of the city a convenient alternative to the company’s store in Roseville, north of the city. Both stores carry steep- and low-slope roofing materials, accessories and related roofing supplies, along with other exterior building products appropriate to each market.

ABC Supply Moves Three Branches into New Facilities

Three branches of building products distributor ABC Supply Co. Inc. have moved into facilities that will enable them to better serve local contractors and builders.

The Bloomington, Ind. store moved to 1600 N. Curry Pike. The East Peoria, Ill. branch relocated to 399 Truck Haven Road. The Oklahoma City facility is now at 1500 W. Reno Avenue. All three locations carry steep-slope and low-slope roofing products and systems, siding, windows and doors, and related supplies. Other product offerings are determined by local market conditions.

ABC Supply is a wholesale distributor of roofing, siding, windows and other exterior building products. Since its founding by Ken and Diane Hendricks in 1982, ABC Supply’s focus has been serving professional contractors and offering the products, services and support they need to build their businesses.

ABC Supply Expands through Acquisitions

Building products distributor ABC Supply Co. Inc. has acquired the assets of Siding World, a distributor of siding and other exterior building products, including roofing, windows, doors, decking and gutters. The 40-year old company has locations in 17 markets in Michigan, Indiana and Ohio.

With the conclusion of the transaction, the Siding World stores have become the newest ABC Supply locations. The former Siding World stores join 15 existing ABC Supply branches in Michigan, 13 in Ohio and eight in Indiana.

“We are very happy to welcome the members of the Siding World team to our ABC family,” said Keith Rozolis, president and chief executive officer of ABC Supply. “Siding World’s strong position in the siding market complements the ABC Supply product offering and expands our ability to serve contractors in these markets.”

All of the Siding World branch associates are remaining with the organization. That means Siding World customers will continue to work with the people they have come to know and rely on.

Siding World’s Michigan stores are in Battle Creek, Chesterfield, Clio, Detroit, Fenton, Inkster, Jackson, Kalamazoo, Livonia, Madison Heights, Saginaw, Sanford, Waterford and Wyandotte. There are two locations in Indiana – South Bend and Goshen – and one in Toledo, Ohio.

In addition, ABC Supply Co. has acquired the assets of Wameling Drywall Corp. (doing business as Gilbert Supply Company), a single-location distributor of exterior building products, wallboard and insulation, in Marcy, N.Y.
The branch, located at 9206 River Road, becomes the newest ABC Supply store and is the company’s first in the Utica/Marcy, New York market.

“The Utica/Marcy area is poised for growth,” said Tom Kuchan, vice president of ABC Supply’s Northeast Region, citing the Nano Utica initiative, a public-private partnership that is expected to bring more than 1,000 high-tech jobs to the area and help create New York’s second major hub of nanotechnology research and development. “We look forward to being part of that growth by serving the area’s residential and commercial contractors.”

ABC Supply had been serving Utica/Marcy-area contractors from its branches in Syracuse, New York and Schenectady, New York. “With the addition of a branch in Marcy, we will be able to meet their needs more effectively and efficiently,” Kuchan said.

Customers will continue to work with the Gilbert Supply team they have come to know and rely on, he added. Anthony Wameling, president and co-owner of the former Gilbert Supply is joining ABC Supply. Vincent Conley, vice president and co-owner of the former Gilbert Supply, has retired.

ABC Supply Acquires New Jersey Distributor of Roofing Materials

Building products distributor ABC Supply Co. Inc. has acquired Standard Roofings Inc., dba The Standard Group, New Jersey’s largest independent distributor of roofing materials and other exterior building products. The distributor has stores in Trenton, Morristown, Toms River, Tinton Falls and Manahawkin.

“The Standard Group is a long-established and highly regarded distributor of building products in the New Jersey market,” said Keith Rozolis, president and chief executive officer of ABC Supply. “We are very excited to have this team, with their ‘Yes is our Standard answer’ attitude, join ABC Supply.”

The addition of The Standard Group locations enhances ABC Supply’s presence in New Jersey, where the company already operates 15 branches.

ABC Supply is the largest wholesale distributor of roofing in the United States and one of the nation’s largest distributors of siding, windows and other select exterior building products. It accomplishes this by being an “employee-first” company that treats its associates with respect and gives them the tools they need to succeed.

Headquartered in Beloit, Wis., ABC Supply has more than 460 branches nationwide. It is an eight-time winner of the Gallup Great Workplace Award.
