Now crews on the job site are able to stream internet radio, stored music and more from their smart devices. With a connection range of up to 150 feet, the Bluetooth technology allows users to move freely around the construction zone without being tethered to a cable, and without fear of losing sound quality. It can all be controlled on the free Bosch PowerBox smartphone app.

And while Bluetooth connectivity provides those with smart devices the freedom to move around, users without Bluetooth technology can still enjoy the crisp and powerful sounds. Entertainment via a personal electronic device plugged into the auxiliary port plays a big role, as well. The Power Box’s digital media bay offers a secure, weather-sealed storage area for electronic devices while delivering sound via an auxiliary input port.

As with previous versions of the Power Box, the PB360C still features a powerful AM/FM radio with advanced digital tuning, that easily locates 20 FM and 10 AM preset stations. There are four preset equalization mixes and the user can also customize the bass and treble as desired.

The unit can run on either a 120V AC outlet or a Bosch 18V Li-ion battery. When powered from a 120 V AC outlet, the Power Box can be used to charge Bosch cordless 18V Li-ion batteries. In addition, users can power other 120V AC devices by plugging them into one of the four-way power outlets on the unit.

The Bosch PB360C also offers a USB port to plug in and charge electronic devices like smartphones, whether the PB360C is powered through an outlet or by a Bosch Li-ion battery.

It all comes in the distinct and rugged aluminum and rubber roll-cage design that suspends the radio and its 360-degree speakers inside the cage. This weather-resistant (with an IP54 rating) and shock-resistant entertainment console can take on tough job site environments.

Lithium Ion Batteries Connect to App via Bluetooth

DEWALT launches its first line of premium 20V MAX 2.0 Amp (DCB203BT) and 4.0 Amp (DCB204BT) lithium ion batteries with Bluetooth capability.

DEWALT launches its first line of premium 20V MAX 2.0 Amp (DCB203BT) and 4.0 Amp (DCB204BT) lithium ion batteries with Bluetooth capability.

Adding to its growing offering of “connected” tools, DEWALT launches its first line of premium 20V MAX 2.0 Amp (DCB203BT) and 4.0 Amp (DCB204BT) lithium ion batteries with Bluetooth capability.

These batteries pair with Apple and Android smart devices via the free Tool Connect App. This innovation gives DEWALT users the ability to control their compatible DEWALT batteries remotely via a Bluetooth device. For the early-adopter who runs a business on a job site, this technology allows greater control over tools in residential, MRO and commercial work sites.

Bluetooth-enabled batteries solve a number of job-site problems and the Tool Connect App takes just a few moments to set up. Users can simply connect their compatible DEWALT batteries to their Bluetooth-enabled smartphone or tablet (by initiating the pairing process) and view the inventory of paired units on the Tool Connect App home screen. This home screen allows users to remotely turn all compatible DEWALT Bluetooth batteries on or off at once, monitor battery charge level, view Bluetooth signal strength and pair additional batteries.

From the Tool Connect App home screen, users can select an individual battery to view its diagnostics and change settings by tabbing through four pages: Diagnostics, Actions, Info and Alerts. The Diagnostics screen indicates an individual battery’s state of charge, temperature and connection to Bluetooth. This screen also allows users to enable and disable a particular battery. By disabling a battery, the user prevents it from being used until re-enabled. This feature makes it easy to shut down equipment at the end of the day to conserve battery life and deter theft.

The Actions screen allows the user to customize their alert preferences depending on what information they need and when they need it. These options include Alert if Out of Range, Disable if Out of Range, Alert at Low Battery Charge, Alert at High Temperature and Alert at Charge Completion. In addition, this screen offers a Lending Button, which allows for sharing of batteries. The user can select an amount of time for the tool (with battery) to be lent and when the time is exceeded, the battery shuts down and the owner receives an alert.

Finally, the Alerts screen provides a comprehensive list of all of the alerts that have been generated by the Tool Connect App and the compatible DEWALT Bluetooth batteries. From here, users can select an alert to view more details or clear some or all alerts in the log.

Tape Measure Features a Digital Readout and Built-in Memories

eTape16’s large, easy-to-read digital readout is accurate to 1/16 inch or 1 millimeter.

eTape16’s large, easy-to-read digital readout is accurate to 1/16 inch or 1 millimeter.

“Measure twice, cut once,” the saying goes. Or you can simply get it right the first time. We all know the hassles of getting measurements right and the frustration of measurement mistakes. Designed by a professional builder, eTape16 solves all those problems in one tough, compact tool. Like a traditional tape measure, eTape16’s metal blade is available in U.S., Metric, or U.S. and Metric markings, but that’s where the resemblance ends. eTape16’s large, easy-to-read digital readout is accurate to 1/16 inch or 1 millimeter. A simple push of a button allows one to read the measurement easily in inches, feet, fractions, and decimals, and converts to metric too. Another feature is inside/outside measurement; with the simple touch of a button it toggles between outside measurement of the blade length alone and inside measurement, which automatically adds the 3-inch width of the tape measure case to the readout. Inside measurement is ideal for those tricky situations where the case runs into a wall and you have to mentally add its width to the length of the exposed metal blade. But that’s just the beginning of eTape16’s sophisticated features.

eTape16 has three built-in memories: “hold”, which retains a measurement even after the blade has withdrawn into the case, and two long-term memories that will retain readings even after the tape shuts off and until they are overwritten. Memory means you no longer have to memorize or write down readings to transfer a measurement. And for specialized functions like hanging a picture on a wall, the push of a button automatically calculates the center point of a measurement. Finally, the re-zero function lets you measure the distance from a previously measured point without withdrawing the blade. This is ideal for measuring intervals without having to re-anchor the end of the blade for each measurement, for example, marking 2-foot intervals along a 10-foot board.

The tape is built to last, with a tough polycarbonate case and rubber bumper to protect the readout. The CR2032 coin battery can last for up to 64 hours of continuous use, and replacements are widely available and easy to install without tools. To prolong battery life, eTape16 shuts down automatically after five minutes of non-use.

eTape16 was created by Stephen Crane, a graduate of MIT, who was working for a naval architecture firm developing America’s Cup racing yachts and wanted an easy, precise way to determine metric measurements. He initially took his patented digital tape measure to the Evans Rule Division of L.S. Starrett, and 18 months later the Starrett Digitape was in production as the world’s first digital tape measure. Over the next four years the first generation Digitape sold 1.5 million units. In January 2014, Crane established his own company, and in spring of 2015 took a new, improved product to market, completely redesigned with the homeowner in mind, with a strong emphasis on styling, compactness and ease of use. The company is continuing to add features, including Bluetooth connectivity to be announced for the iOS operating system this fall, followed shortly by an Android version.
