VELUX Dynamic Dome commercial skylights are engineered to reflect less light and harvest more light, especially in the early morning and late afternoon. The focus of the design is on maximizing low-sun-angle performance. This can result in reduced energy costs; electric lights can be turned off earlier in the day and will not have to be turned back on until later in the day. Other features include a proprietary wicking system, which evacuates condensation to the skylight exterior, and an encapsulating design that provides a water barrier with a 100 percent thermally broken skylight frame.

Nationwide Protective Coating Manufacturers Inc. introduces a color pigment system of reflective, energy saving colorants with fade resistance called COOL COLORS, with ColorActiv Technology.

The color pigments were originally designed for Military applications. The reduction in surface temperatures provided stealth capabilities against thermographic heat seeking radars to military vehicles and structures. This same technology is now available in ColorActiv Technology pigments for most any of Nationwide Protective Coating Manufacturers Inc., paint or coatings from concrete stains to wall and roof coatings.

Touch the roof or walls of a home or business when it’s been out in the sun for a while, and you will feel it’s hot. In fact, some dark colored roofing can attain a temperature of 190 degrees fahrenheit or more. These materials absorb a portion of the infrared radiation from the sun. This heat buildup transfers inside the structure, increasing cooling costs. ColorActiv Technology now allows for dark colors to have more reflectivity. This lowers the surface temperatures thus lowering heat transfer into the structure. The reflective coatings come in a variety of colors and custom color matching is also available. Depending on your color choice these coatings provide a reflectivity from 23% to 77%.

Major Industries Redesigns Its Website for Easier Access to Staff and Independent Representatives

Major Industries, manufacturer of energy-saving skylights and translucent wall systems, redesigns its website to make it easier for architects, designers, specifiers and contractors to find the information they need while incorporating new features that allow for easier access to the staff, as well as its network of independent representatives.

“The new website was developed in response to a changing market,” states Mark Mitchell, marketing manager for Major Industries. “New and current customers want access to materials and information quickly, whether it’s a spec or contact information for their local representative. Finding that information should be as simple as possible.”

The new site features a searchable map to make locating Major’s independent representatives simpler, an “About Us” page with staff pictures and links to members of Major’s team, and a revamped image gallery. The site also features a Rep Portal, designed to allow our outside representatives easy access to training materials, quick sample and promotional item ordering and more.

RCMA Offers an Educational Presentation on Reflective Roof Coatings

The Roof Coatings Manufacturers Association (RCMA) has launched its Speakers Bureau program to offer an educational presentation on reflective roof coatings. RCMA’s Speakers Bureau consists of several RCMA members with expertise on the topic who have volunteered to deliver presentations throughout the country.

This presentation, titled “Reflective Roof Coatings: Cool Stories,” is approximately one hour in length, and discusses the key benefits and the environmental importance of reflective roof coatings used on low-slope roof systems. The science behind reflective roof coatings is presented in an easy-to-understand format and real-world case studies are presented to illustrate the information presented. The presentation content is intended to enable attendees to:

  • Understand the benefits that reflective roof coatings impart on low-slope roof systems.
  • Recognize why reflective roofs are environmentally important and comprehend the science behind how reflective roofs save energy.
  • Determine best practices for preparing a roof membrane and application methods for reflective roof coatings on low-slope roof systems.
  • Identify payback, energy savings, and other non-quantifiable benefits by evaluating several real-world roof-reflectivity case studies.

RCMA is an approved continuing education provider with the American Institute of Architects (AIA) and RCI Inc. By attending the course, attendees qualify to earn 1 AIA General Learning Unit Hour (1 LU Hour) as part of AIA’s Continuing Education System or 1 RCI Continuing Education Hour (CEH).
