Three More Companies Join NRCA’s One Voice Initiative

NRCA announced that Carlisle Construction Materials, Owens Corning and Tremco Roofing and Building Maintenance have joined NRCA’s One Voice initiative, with each company upgrading its associate membership to “partner member.”

In early 2017, NRCA launched its One Voice initiative aimed at collectively recognizing threats to the industry and the opportunities they may present. To do so, NRCA has undertaken a campaign to unite the roofing industry and speak with one voice regarding matters of industry importance. To ensure all industry sectors are given an opportunity to participate, NRCA amended its bylaws to allow manufacturers, distributors, architects, engineers and consultants that choose to participate to become full members of the association, meaning they will be granted voting rights and eligible for leadership roles within the association. Previously, such rights were reserved only for contractor members.

“Now is the perfect time to launch NRCA’s One Voice initiative. There is unique opportunity for the roofing industry to address the major issues we face. However, our work can only be accomplished with commitments from leaders from all sectors of this great industry,” said Reid Ribble, NRCA’s CEO. “Only together as a roofing community can we take this transformational approach to address our issues and concerns and achieve success in the future.”

Inc., Beloit, Wis.; ATAS International Inc., Allentown, Pa.; FiberTite Roofing Systems Seaman Corp., Wooster, Ohio; Sika Sarnafil Inc., Canton, Mass.; SRS Distribution Inc., McKinney, Texas; and Trent Cotney, Trent Cotney, P.A., Tampa, Fla.

RCA’s One Voice initiative initially will focus on developing a national worker training and certification program, legislative efforts and advocacy.

Re-Roofing Project Protects Medical Center’s Critical Interior Space

Maintaining the building envelope is essential to the success of a facility with critical interior space. This is especially true with hospitals and medical centers, where facility managers need to be on top of the building envelope integrity so patients and valuable assets are protected.

When the staff at an acute care medical facility in Florida realized the building’s existing roof was reaching the end of its service life, they knew they had to take action right away. The medical center offers a 24-hour emergency department, surgical services and various other outpatient services, and avoiding interruptions caused by roof leaks was critical. Hospital officials sought out a roofing consultant to offer a recommendation for the best roofing system to protect the facility.

McEnany Roofing, located in Tampa, Fla., has been providing commercial and industrial roofing solutions for more than 27 years. “We worked on the medical facility’s behalf to recommend a roofing system for this environment,” says Mark Sloat, vice president and senior estimator at McEnany Roofing. “We used the services of an engineer to conduct an uplift test to help us determine the best roof to suit their needs.”

After all the testing and research was complete, McEnany Roofing concluded that a FiberTite Roofing System was the best choice. The proven performance advantages in puncture resistance, durability, wind uplift and severe weather protection supported McEnany Roofing’s recommendation and after careful review of the data, the medical facility agreed. In 2016, McEnany Roofing installed more than 130,000 square feet of Elvaloy KEE membrane on the main hospital and two adjacent medical buildings.

The sensitive environment of the hospital setting also had to be taken into account. The water-based adhesive used to adhere the 45-mil FiberTite Fleeceback membrane on the upper roof of the main hospital helped mitigate odor. Other areas of the hospital had 45-mil FiberTite-SM installed using the mechanically attached securement. Both processes minimized disruption and allowed the medical center to maintain strict standards of patient care during installation. The medical center is pleased with the decision to use FiberTite to protect their facility and trusts the roof system will be durable and reliable for many years to come.

NRCA Announces First Partner Member

The National Roofing Contractors Association (NRCA) has announced that FiberTite Roofing Systems Seaman Corp., Wooster, Ohio, has become the first manufacturer to upgrade its associate membership to partner member.

“Our chances for success in many areas improve when we row in the same direction, and I saw this firsthand during my time in Congress,” says NRCA CEO Reid Ribble. “Industries that spoke with a single voice in Washington were more effective at moving legislation in their direction, and I believe we can accomplish the same when we foster relationships that are more inclusive and collaborative.”

FiberTite is the first company to commit to NRCA’s One Voice initiative, which initially will focus on developing a national worker training and certification program, legislative efforts and advocacy.

Roofing Industry Alliance for Progress Announces Additional Funding for Roofing Research

The Roofing Industry Alliance for Progress announces the addition of four members during 2016’s third quarter, adding $300,000 in funding for progressive roofing research that contributes to the ongoing advancement of the industry.

The Alliance’s newest members are:
Academy Roofing, Aurora, Colo., is one of Colorado’s premier roofing contractors providing commercial and residential roof system replacement and repair in addition to solar roofing, gutter installation and cleaning, new insulation and walkable deck systems. Academy Roofing joined the Alliance at the Governor level.

Bennett and Brosseau Roofing, Romeoville Ill., specializes in in low-slope, steep-slope, metal and green roof system design, construction and maintenance. As one of Chicago’s premier, full-service roofing contractors, Bennett and Brosseau Roofing has a commitment to sustainability and green building practices. Bennett and Brosseau Roofing joined the Alliance at the Governor level.

FiberTite Roofing Systems, manufactured by Seaman Corp., launches its newly redesigned website.

“The overhaul of the FiberTite website allows for increased functionality and capability,” says Nick Kesslering, director of FiberTite sales. “Seaman Corp. is focused first and foremost on the needs of our customers. This new site will position us for future growth, giving our customers and salesforce the tools they need to access information on their time.”

The new website is designed to be user friendly, and to attract, engage, and inform customers.

“The launch of the FiberTite site is part of a grander plan of improving our engagement with our online audience,” reports Michelle Miller, Seaman Corp.’s marketing manager. “People rely on the internet more than ever to access documents and information instantaneously. As we continue to focus on our customers’needs, it became apparent that we strengthen our online presence.”

Seaman Corp. selected SyncShow Interactive, a Cleveland-based digital marketing firm, as a partner in the redesign and launch. SyncShow specializes in helping business-to-business clients improve their sales and lead generation strategies through digital marketing.

The companies started their partnership in early 2015 and launched a new corporate website in June. They will continue their partnership as they work to redevelop two additional sites that showcase Seaman Corp.’s additional main product lines, including XR Geomembranes and Shelter-Rite fabrics for architectural structure applications. Both sites are scheduled to launch yet this year.
