IKO Announces Atlantic Blue Is the Winner of 2019 Voter’s Choice Poll

IKO gave customers and contractors the power to voice their opinions in the 2019 IKO Voter’s Choice Poll for IKO’s shingle color of the year. Of the four color options, Atlantic Blue, Shadow Brown, Monaco Red and Emerald Green, Atlantic Blue was voted as the best shingle color for 2019 with 41.6 percent of votes. Shadow Brown landed in second place with almost 30 percent.

Roofing industry insiders and consumers had the opportunity to vote in IKO’s poll. The submissions were an accumulation of a weeklong poll on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. Votes were also submitted on site at the International Roofing Expo (IRE) in Nashville, Tennessee, this past February.

“Increasingly, homeowners are becoming more involved in each aspect of their home’s design, and contractors are providing their customers with more options,” said Mark Okland, product development manager, North America. “IKO is committed to continually optimizing our product lines based on consumer demands and industry needs. With the addition of these four new colors, the Dynasty line now provides 15 color choices, and we’re excited to see how well received these new colors — particularly Atlantic Blue — are by our contractors and customers.”

According to the manufacturer, Dynasty’s 15 high-definition color blends provide homeowners with superior shingle performance wrapped in a mainstream design. The full line features a tear-resistant band that helps resist nail heads from pulling through the shingle in high winds and Fastlock sealant strips formulated to create a strong bond to the shingles below. With concern over the rising frequency of severe weather, the importance placed on the home’s first line of defense, the roof, is growing. Shingles need to look good and stand up to the elements.

As homeowners and future homeowners desire to increase curb appeal and stand out from their neighbors, contractors can never provide too many color options to choose from. Homeowners can sample these roofing colors using IKO’s RoofViewer online or by downloading the RoofViewer app. When it’s time for a roof upgrade or restoration, IKO’s contractor locator can be used to find a local certified roofing contractor.

Shingle Line Adds to Color Portfolio

IKO Dynasty shingles with ArmourZone adds three colors to its color portfolio.

IKO Dynasty shingles with ArmourZone adds three colors to its color portfolio.

The IKO Dynasty shingles with ArmourZone color portfolio provides three additional colors: Driftshake, Brownstone and Frostone Grey.

Contractors can enjoy eleven color blends offered in the IKO Dynasty shingle line, along with ease-of-installation and wind-resistance benefits thanks to the ArmourZone technology.

The three colors are engineered using a color blend technology process that enhances any roofscape.

Coordinating IKO Hip and Ridge Cap Shingles, both standard and high profile (in limited markets), are also available to help protect vulnerable roof areas and to accentuate the roofline. Complementary colors for the three Dynasty swatches include Driftwood (for Driftshake), Dual Brown (for Brownstone) and Dual Grey (for Frostone Grey).

Ease of Installation & Wind Resistance

IKO Dynasty shingles also offer ease of installation thanks to ArmourZone, an enlarged nailing area that makes project installation more accurate.

Two nailing lines that are 1-1/4-inches apart identify the ArmourZone, which is 40 percent wider than IKO’s standard 7/8-inch roofing shingle nailing zones and also guides installers for correct nail placement. Plus, Dynasty shingles require only four nails per shingle for installation compared with the typical six nails for most traditional shingles. Be sure to check your local building code for specific nailing requirements in your area.

Additionally, the reinforced woven band within the ArmourZone helps provide resistance to high winds and carry a 130 miles-per-hour wind limited warranty. The ArmourZone also provides fastening strength over a large surface area of the shingle, helping to resist nail heads from pulling through the shingle in high winds.
