Single-Component, Solvent-Free Flashing Designed for Quick, Durable Roof Repairs

Kemper System America Inc. introduces Kemperol 1K-LF Flashing, designed for quick, durable roof repairs. Unlike most other roof repair products, it is a solvent-free, low-odor system that adheres to most substrates without a primer, and is fully reinforced for more durable waterproofing protection.

According to the manufacturer, the single-component, silane-based waterproofing can be applied at temperatures above 41 degrees Fahrenheit, even in humid conditions. The liquid flashing fully adheres to roofing materials including most single-ply membrane roofing systems. The reinforced flashing system is rain-fast in about two hours and walkable after about 16 hours. Any unused resin can be stored for later use.

“Contractors need a versatile, easy-to-use roof repair product that delivers high value for customers,” said Andreas H. Wiggenhagen, president of Kemper System America. “Because leaks can occur long before a roof replacement is required, repairs with Kemperol 1K-LF Flashing can help building managers delay a major capital investment while reducing the headaches of tenant complaints.”

The product is ideal for a variety of common roof leaks such as around skylights, gutters and drains, pipes and other roof penetrations, as well as at corners, and along seams in sheet products. It can also be used for balcony repair and retrofit projects.

According to the company, the UV-stable Kemperol 1K-LF waterproofing resin can be applied by brush or roller. A special Kemperol fleece reinforcement is then embedded into the wet resin and coated with more resin to form a seamless membrane, particularly around complex details. The fleece-reinforced flashing system can also bridge small cracks and remains permanently elastic so it can compensate for building movements.

Kemper System Features Cost-Effective ‘Cool Roof’ Solutions

Kemper System America Inc. now offers two cost-effective ‘cool roof’ solutions for prolonging the life of metal, BUR, modified bitumen and aged single-ply roof systems.

Roof Guardian RG-170 is an elastomer-based coating system ideal for extending the life of many types of roofing assemblies. Formulated using a 100 percent acrylic polymer base for enhanced adhesion and durability, the coating features a high Solar Reflectance Index (SRI) rating of 109 and is Class A fire rated. Roof Guardian RG-180 is a fiber-reinforced elastomeric coating with an acrylic polymer base, ideal for metal, concrete, single ply, modified bitumen, and granular cap sheets. It offers an SRI rating of 108.

“Kemper System has been at the vanguard of liquid-applied roof waterproofing solutions for decades. These two new white Roof Guardian coating systems offer a quick and cost-effective approach for transforming many kinds of existing low-slope roofs into a cool roof that can help building owners cut cooling costs,” says Jim Arnold, Director of Product Development for Kemper System.

Part of the company’s Roof Guardian Technologies line, the roof coatings can be quickly applied with a commercial-grade sprayer or roller. The highly reflective bright white finish lowers the surface temperature of the substrate to reduce thermal transfer into the structure. This high solar reflectance helps lower indoor temperatures to reduce building cooling requirements.

Formulated to resist cracking and peeling, both products provide excellent waterproofing and long-term mildew resistance. Both solutions are Energy Star and Cool Roof rated.

“For more than 60 years, Kemper System has been a global industry leader in cold liquid- applied, reinforced roofing and waterproofing, having invented the technology and holding the first patents,” says Arnold. “Today the company offers a full range of building envelope solutions to protect against weather, preserve the integrity of surfaces, and enhance the comfort and value of buildings.”

This portfolio encompasses Wall Guardian fibered acrylic air barrier, Roof Guardian Technologies elastomer-based roof coatings, and HeatBloc-ULTRA radiant heat barrier. Other high-value brands include COLEAN traffic coating systems, and the company flagship for exterior and interior waterproofing, Kemperol reinforced membrane systems.

Kemper System America Moves Office to the Top Floor of Heights Plaza in New Jersey

Kemper System America Inc. moved its New York metro sales office from Closter, N.J. to the top floor of Heights Plaza at 777 Terrace Ave., Hasbrouck Heights, N.J. 07604. The 200,000-square-foot office building gives ready access to major highways and transportation hubs and offers views of the Manhattan skyline.

“This is an ideal location for us to support our customers across the New York metropolitan region who include commercial architects, building owners and real estate management companies,” says Richard Doornink, president and managing director of Kemper System America, based in West Seneca, N.Y.

The company’s liquid-membrane waterproofing systems protect many iconic structures in the region, including the Empire State Building and the World Trade Center. Newer products span highly reflective ‘Cool Roof’ systems that help manage building energy from the top, and reinforced systems that add another layer of protection for indoor tiled areas.

Membrane System Reflects Sunlight to Reduce Impact of IR Rays

The bright white surface helps reflect sunlight and reduce the impact of infrared (IR) rays that can tax building cooling systems.

The easy-to-apply, fully-reinforced membrane is applied the same way as Kemper System’s Kemperol 2K-PUR solvent- and odor-free system, but the liquid waterproofing pours out white and dries to a bright white finish. Because no topcoat is necessary, labor costs and installation time are reduced.

The cool roof resin membrane system consists of 70 percent renewable resources, is fire rated for Class-A assemblies, and is odor-free and low-VOC.

Kemperol Reflect 2K FR extends Kemper System’s efforts to support sustainable design. It works for exposed roofs where reflectivity can make a major impact on building energy demands, and it offers many of the same advantages as the Kemperol 2K-PUR system, popular for ‘Green Roofs’ and ‘Blue Roofs’.

The product was tested in Europe and proven valuable on ‘cool roofs’ (also known as ‘white roofs’) especially in warmer climates and areas with above average sunshine.

Both Kemperol systems are also both eligible for LEED credits under the U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification program.

Kemperol membrane systems fully adhere to substrates, and are self-flashing and self-terminating for easy installation and edge-to-edge protection. They can seal roof perimeters, multiple penetrations and virtually any architectural detail, with extended-warranty protection. They are fully reinforced with 165 polyester fleece which absorbs the resin and can achieve proper membrane thickness in a single layer.
