A total of 40,000 square feet of interlocking zinc panels are used on the walls and standing-seam zinc panels are installed on the roof of the building to provide long-lasting durability and an impressive visual aesthetic. As North Carolina’s first new medical school in 35 years, Campbell University regards this building as an investment in the state’s future needs for health-care professionals and a modern educational space. The Leon Levine Hall of Medical Sciences, which was completed in June 2013, consists of approximately 96,500 square feet on four floors. The building is designed to create a modern learning environment with simulation laboratories, traditional laboratories, an osteopathic manipulative medicine lab, student group-study rooms, student interaction areas, a resource library and small café. It hosts the School of Osteopathic Medicine and is designed to provide hands-on education for medical students.

Jeff Irwin, executive vice president and general manager of the Architectural Panel Division at Metl-Span, was the recipient of the 2015 Patrick R. Bush Award presented at the Metal Construction Association winter meeting in Palm Springs, Calif.
The Patrick R. Bush Service Award recognizes one individual from a member company who has recently made significant volunteer contributions to the MCA.
Irwin is a 35-year veteran in the metal wall and roofing industry and has worked 24 years in the insulated metal panel industry. He currently serves as the chairman of the Insulated Metal Panel Council and has been deeply involved in MCA for two decades, serving on the board of directors and as president, vice president and secretary-treasurer. Irwin was cited for being “committed to the Insulated Metal Panel Council and a strong, consistent supporter of METALCON.”

The MiaSolé thin film modules carry a 15.5 percent efficiency rating with a simple peel-and-stick application method that reduces balance of system costs by 20 percent. McElroy will offer MiaSolé modules factory laminated directly to its metal roof panels to create a lightweight, low-profile solar energy solution durable in extreme, high-wind and seismic zones and on buildings with limited load bearing roofs.
McElroy also markets a complete solar kit for McElroy standing seam, low-slope, storage unit and carport metal roofs. By providing square footage and location, McElroy can provide a complete, pre-engineered solar package with MiaSolé modules, inverter and balance of system components.
The MiaSolé and McElroy Metal partnership combines many advantages for architects, developers, builders and contractors. The 25-year—or more—power output of the MiaSolé FLEX series modules compliments the long service life of metal roofs. Options for factory-applied FLEX modules to metal panels can further reduce onsite installation costs and contribute to consistent quality.

The newly patented design of LCF Universal Closure by Lakeside Construction Fasteners creates a weathertight seal and contours to a metal-panel profile without the need for carrying die cut closures. The close-cell closure can be used as an inner/outer with adhesive applied the full length and width of the LCF Universal Closure. The patented adhesive bonding agent helps prevent water, dirt, snow and insects from penetrating the building structure after installation. The product, which can be used in multiple applications throughout the ridge cap, eave, hip or valley, is Dade County 110-mph tested and approved.
