SPRI Elects New Directors and Honors Members for Service

SPRI, the trade association representing sheet membrane and component suppliers to the commercial roofing industry, elected four directors to its board and honored members at the association’s 37th Annual Conference and Business Meeting, held in Tucson, Arizona.

During the meeting, SPRI’s membership elected the following slate of officers and Directors for the association’s 2019-2021 membership years:

Associate Directors include Scott Carpenter, SFS intec; Stan Choiniere, StanCConsulting; Bob LeClare, ATAS International; and Ron Reed, Intertek.

The following officers will continue to serve SPRI for a second year: Zebonie Sukle, Johns Manville, President; Brad Van Dam, Metal-Era Inc., Treasurer; Mike Hubbard, Firestone Building Products Co., LLC, President-elect; and Jim Rubenaker, Sika Sarnafil, Immediate Past President.

Each year, SPRI honors those volunteers who have gone above-and-beyond in devoting their time and talents to the association. Nominations for these honorees are solicited from the membership, and the Member Services Chair and the President of SPRI make the selections.

The first honoree is Mike Darsch of Sika Sarnafil. Darsch, a new participant in SPRI, took on a leadership role chairing a Task Force responsible for the updating and canvassing of SPRI ANSI Standard VR-1, Procedure for Investigating Resistance to Root Penetration on Vegetative Roofs. Working on a canvass requires meticulous attention to detail and significant patience, qualities in which Darsch excels.

The second honoree is David R. Hawn of Dedicated Roof & Hydro Solutions. Hawn was honored for his work on behalf of SPRI in starting the Wetting Curves: Acceptable Roof Material Performance at Elevated Moisture Content Task Forcein 2013This Task Force is in the testing phase of the project. Hawn’s participation on this project and his input on so many others have represented a significant contribution of his time and knowledge.

SPRI veteran Al Janni of Duro-Last Roofing Inc. was presented with SPRI’s President’s Award this year. This award was created to recognize the exemplary service of a volunteer. During more than 15 years at SPRI, Janni chaired many technical task forces, served as chair of the Member Services committee, as a Director, and President. Janni has supported SPRI through his exceptional volunteer efforts, representing the values and priorities of the organization, while fostering the cooperative spirit that helps SPRI achieve its goals.

NRCA Announces 2019-20 Officers and Directors

The National Roofing Contractors Association announced its 2019-20 slate of officers and directors at its 132nd Annual Convention held Feb. 11-13 in Nashville, Tenn.

Nick Sabino, president of Deer Park Roofing Inc., Cincinnati, has been elected NRCA chairman of the board, and Rod Petrick, president of Ridgeworth Roofing Co. Inc., Frankfort, Ill., was elected chairman of the board-elect. Kyle Thomas, owner/vice president of Thomas Roofing Co. Inc., Mobile, Ala.; Tupac de la Cruz, founder of Roofing Solutions LLC, Prairieville, La.; Doug Duncan, president of Nations Roof, Villa Park, Ill.; and Brad Sutter, executive vice president of Sutter Roofing Co. of Florida, Sarasota, Fla., were elected vice chairmen.

National Association of Women in Construction Installs 62nd National President

The National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) installed Connie Leipard, CIT, as the 62nd National President during NAWIC’s Annual Meeting and Education Conference in San Antonio, Texas. Leipard, owner of Quality Drywall Construction, has been a member of NAWIC’s Central Missouri Chapter since 1995.

“NAWIC is poised to make a positive impact in the construction industry by focusing our resources on member career development through leadership opportunities, education and networking,” said Leipard. “The 2016-2017 NAWIC national board is committed to making a difference by implementing training programs for our members. In addition, we will increase engagement with construction employers to determine future training programs. Our efforts will lead to greater success in recruiting and retaining women in the industry.”

Leipard’s goals for the upcoming year include providing training resources for chapter leaders and individual members to promote personal, professional and association growth; continuing succession planning for the upcoming retirement of NAWIC’s executive vice president; and implementing a national marketing program.

Leipard’s theme for her year in office is “Support ­– Encourage – Grow.” This encompasses what NAWIC is all about—enhancing the success of women in the construction industry. She wants to, “remind members of the opportunities we have through NAWIC to make a difference in the industry and for the women employed in it. As we support, encourage and grow, the influence of women in the industry will increase.”

NAWIC also installed officers President-Elect Catherine D. Schoenenberger, Granite State Chapter, N.H.; Vice President Dove Sifers-Putman, CBT, Charlotte, N.C. Chapter; Treasurer Anne Pfleger, CIT, Lima Ohio Area Chapter; Secretary Diane I. Mike, CBT, Fort Worth, Texas Chapter; and Immediate Past President Riki F. Lovejoy, CBT, CIT, Greater Orlando, Fla. Chapter.

In addition to the officers, the NAWIC board is comprised of a director from each of the association’s eight regions. Each director serves a two-year term and is elected by her peers to bring the wishes and needs of the chapters to the attention of the association. New directors installed are:

The National Roofing Contractors Association (NRCA) announced its 2016-17 slate of officers and directors at its 129th Annual Convention held Feb. 17-19 in Orlando, Fla.

Dennis Conway, principal and vice president of Commercial Roofers Inc., Las Vegas, has been elected NRCA chairman of the board, and Jim Barr, president of Barr Roofing Co., Abilene, Texas, was elected chairman of the board-elect. MCA Elects Officers and Directors

The Chicago-based Metal Construction Association elected its 2016 officers and board of directors at its annual meeting, Feb. 2, in St. Pete Beach, Fla.

Dale Nelson, president of Roof Hugger Inc., was elected chair of the association. Ed Karper, account manager for Akzo Nobel Coatings Inc., was elected vice-chair, and Jim Bush, vice president of sales and marketing for ATAS International Inc., will serve as treasurer. Norbert Schneider, general manager Asia Pacific & Americas of Umicore Building Products USA Inc., was elected secretary. National Roofing Legal Resource Center Announces Slate of Officers

The National Roofing Legal Resource Center (NRLRC) has announced its slate of officers for the 2015-16 fiscal year.
