Boral Roofing Partners With BIMsmith to Create BIM Content for its Roofing Products

Boral Roofing LLC has partnered with BIMsmith to produce Building Information Modelling (BIM) content for its roofing products.

The data-rich digital models produced by the partnership are significant for enabling architects and building professionals to now incorporate Boral Roofing’s clay and concrete tile roofing products directly into their design projects. Each product file is compatible with the industry standard in building design software, Autodesk Revit, making the integration of Boral Roofing into a building project fast and easy for building professionals. Furthermore, the product files include all the data, specifications, and cut sheets that architects and designers need in one place, saving them valuable time and effort in their day-to-day workflow.

In addition to providing standalone BIM content, Boral Roofing has also made its clay and concrete roof tile solutions available on the BIMsmith Forge application, a free cloud tool that allows building professionals to design roofing assemblies layer by layer using real, accurate product data. This integration allows users to build a roofing assembly utilizing any of Boral Roofing’s product lines and add it to their projects in just minutes.

“Boral has long sought to provide roofing solutions with superior performance, durability, energy efficiency, and curb appeal,” said Shannon Delgado, marketing manager at Boral Roofing. “We are excited that the availability of Boral Roofing BIM content through BIMsmith will further aid the architects and designers who commit themselves to these standards of excellence every day.”

“Boral Roofing offers a rare depth of solutions and customization that make them an invaluable resource to the building design process,” said Benjamin Glunz, CEO of BIMsmith. “We are excited to welcome their industry-leading product lines to the BIMsmith platform.”

Power Shield Inc. has introduced roof tiles that have solar cells embedded into them. The tiles are designed to cover the whole roof. The Power Shield roof system features a cool roof coating, above-deck ventilation, and is made from recycled and non-combustible, lightweight steel. Energy is produced through the 16 watts of power per solar tile. Building-envelope thermal performance is improved through:

  • Cool roof coatings on tile keep it cool and improve energy production. The cool roof coating has high emissivity on the sun side to allow heat to be radiated out and low emissivity underneath, making the tiles a radiant barrier.
  • The efficient above-sheathing ventilation on the tile system provides a chimney effect as warm air flows between the tiles and the roof deck and out from the building. In winter, the air gap between the tiles and roof deck are insulating, reducing the heat transfer out of the attic.

Boral Roofing LLC, a provider of sustainable clay and concrete roof tile systems, launched its Gemstone Collection. Boral Roofing is introducing these pallets derived from earthy southwestern hues in six unique concrete roof tile blends. The Gemstone Collection is now available for sale in California.

Designed with subtle shifts of rich color that converge into elegant configurations, these sophisticated blends incorporate hues originating from, and inspired by, the Southwest. All of the Gemstone Collection selections share the same benefits as the full Boral Roofing concrete tile solutions product line, including durability, protection from inclement weather and energy efficiency.

The collection includes six new blends: Sea Pearl, Garnet, Smokey Topaz, Bronze Pearl, Ocean Jasper and Sahara Quartz Blend. All Gemstone colors meet the new California Title 24 compliance requirements and are listed by the Cool Roof Rating Council.

Sea Pearl Blend emulates the iridescence of pearls with a subtle balance of hues. Warm, gray tones shimmer with lustrous patina, reflecting sophistication and grace. Garnet Blend, an amalgam of deep, earthy reds is reminiscent of the majestic sandstone structures that Sedona, Arizona is famous for. Rustic and awe-inspiring, Garnet Blend conveys a sense of enduring strength and ancient grandeur. Smokey Topaz Blend mixes calming shades of honey and brown to evoke a sense of security and tranquillity. Bronze Pearl Blend emulates the rich, shimmery patina that forms naturally on the surface of bronze and embodies the uniquely rich color qualities of the metal itself. Ocean Jasper Blend was created to emulate a rare and beautiful rock found only on the coast of Madagascar. The multiple colors unite into a single vivacious platform that attracts the eye. Sahara Quartz Blend evokes the ethereal beauty of the desert at sunrise.

With the Gemstone theme, Boral Roofing adds the Saxony 900 Country Slate profile. This sleek design features unique bevelled edges precisely defining each roof tile for a staggered appearance. Other profiles featured with the color collection are the Spanish Barcelona “S” tile, the Mediterranean Villa 900 and the rustic Saxony 900 Shake to complement any architectural style.
