Self-Adhering Modified Bitumen Membrane Offers High Reflectivity, Ease of Installation

Polyfresko G SAPolyfresko G SA is a highly reflective, granular surfaced APP modified bitumen roofing membrane meant for self-adhering applications. It is constructed with a high-performance polyester reinforcement providing exceptional tensile strength and dimensional stability. The product is manufactured by Polyglass U.S.A., Inc. using the company’s patented ADESO dual-compound self-adhesive technology. Polyfresko G SA features patented FASTLap for granule-free roll ends, as well as SEALLap, a factory-applied adhesive treatment at the membrane overlap for easy installation. Polyfresko G SA has a highly reflective granular surface and features patented CURE Technology-a thin film that is applied during the manufacturing process resulting in a roof surface resistant to granule loss and discoloration. Bright white, Polyfresko G SA membrane has shown after accelerated weathering that it maintains its reflectivity and white appearance. It is listed with the Cool Roof Ratings Council with an initial SRI of 96 and is California Title 24 compliant.

VaproShield’s Self-Adhered System Obtains a Declare Label

VaproShield announces the WrapShield SA Self-Adhered System has completed the process of obtaining a Declare label. The Declare program was launched in 2014 by the International Living Future Institute (ILFI), founder of the Living Building Challenge, to promote greater transparency in the building products industry. Referred to as a “nutrition label” for building products, Declare labels list all of the materials found in a given product, as well as its assembly site, life expectancy, and other key details to facilitate informed decisions toward positive human and environmental health. The Declare program aims to give people and businesses greater power when deciding what products to surround themselves with in their home or office.

“While VaproShield products undergo numerous internal and external audits to ensure overall healthfulness and sustainability, finally the Declare label makes it easy to present this information in a tangible way,” says Phil Johnson, managing partner. “We are excited to give our business partners the power to know exactly what goes into the product that is held within the walls of their structure.”

WrapShield SA Self-Adhered System is the first water-resistive barrier (WRB)/air barrier self-adhered sheet good membrane system to earn a Declare label placing the system at the forefront of the transparency movement. In order to qualify for a Declare label, a building product must either be free of, or declare any harmful Red List chemicals, and meet all Appropriate Sourcing Imperatives as determined by the ILFI. WrapShield SA Self-Adhered required no changes to its formulation or material components, because it was designed to be free of harmful ingredients.

“We are excited to participate in such an innovative program,” says Johnson. “It embodies our own sustainability philosophy in that [VaproShield] believes sustainability is as much about creating positive environmental impacts as it is about reducing negative ones.”

Domestically produced in the Midwest, the WrapShield SA Self-Adhered System creates a breathable, energy-efficient, continuous air barrier system that helps prevent moisture from becoming trapped in the building envelope. This can reduce instances of mold, mildew and rot, while helping maintain better indoor air quality and a more enduring building structure. An entirely self-adhering product, WrapShield SA Self-Adhered allows for quick installation that never requires the use of chemical primers.

Self-adhered Underlayment Reduces Installation Time and Costs

Firestone Building Products Co. introduced its CLAD-GARD SA-FR with CoreGard Technology.

Firestone Building Products Co. introduced its CLAD-GARD SA-FR with CoreGard Technology.

Firestone Building Products Co. LLC, a manufacturer and supplier of a comprehensive “Roots to Rooftops” product portfolio, introduced its CLAD-GARD SA-FR with CoreGard Technology. The product is a self-adhered, waterproof, UL Class A underlayment and allows for substantial labor and materials savings. It has been strategically engineered to not only protect metal roofing systems from fire, but streamline the installation process.

UL Class A metal roofs protect rooftops, buildings and occupants from the spread of fire, which is key to safeguarding surrounding structures and communities. By offering the fire protection of UL Class A roofing materials in an underlayment, CoreGard Technology reduces installation time, labor costs and the overall number of materials for commercial roofing projects.

To achieve the same fire standard without CLAD-GARD SA-FR with CoreGard Technology, contractors would need to install a separate product, entirely, for their metal roofing systems. Up to six layers of total materials and installation stages would be necessary to accomplish this feat, which is accomplished in just four layers using CLAD-GARD SA-FR underlayment on a metal roofing system.

CLAD-GARD SA-FR with CoreGard Technology is safer, overall, for installers due to its skid-resistant top film. It is also ASTM 1970 approved and self-seals around nails or metal roofing fasteners. In addition, it provides a 120-day exposure. Primer is not required in temperatures of 40 F or higher, making the process a quick and easy one.

CLAD-GARD SA-FR with CoreGard Technology is covered by the Firestone Building Products Platinum Warranty for up to 30 years.
