Metal Construction Association Honors Champions of the Metal Construction Industry

The Metal Construction Association (MCA) is proud to announce the winners for its 2016 Triumph Awards, an award created to honor the people and companies that champion the metal construction industry each year. The annual MCA Triumph Awards honors individuals and organizations throughout the metal construction industry in six categories.  The 2016 award winners are:

Partyka has published and contributed to technical trade-articles and white papers relating to metal building products.  He teaches about sustainable design and the use of metal to reduce heat gain for industrial, commercial and residential structures. He is the inventor of the Drexmet Paint Pen in 2001, an air-dry Kynar touch up system.

SFS intec Structural Fasteners Meet Code Requirements

SFS intec Impax and Flex5 self-drilling structural fasteners have received an evaluation report (ESR-3870) from ICC Evaluation Service (ICC-ES) , providing evidence that these carbon steel self-drilling structural fasteners meet code requirements. Specifically, the carbon steel Impax HWH, MAC, ZAC, cupped sealer, SD2 pancake clip and Flex5 products were included in the report.

Building officials, architects, contractors, specifiers, designers and others utilize ICC-ES Evaluation Reports to provide a basis for using or approving product in construction projects under the International Building Code and International Residential Code.

ICC-ES President Shahin Moinian explains why ICC-ES Evaluation Reports are so important. “SFS intec can now reference the evaluation report to ensure building officials and the building industry that the product meets I-Code requirements,” Moinian states. “Building departments have a long history of using evaluation reports, and ICC-ES operates as a technical resource with the highest quality of product review for the building department. Final approval of building products is always in the hands of the local regulatory agency.”

ICC-ES examined SFS intec’s product information, test reports, calculations, quality control methods and other factors to ensure the product is code-compliant. “We are very proud of the report,” says Andy Lee, product & key account manager, Roofing & Cladding. “It is a tool that will provide our customers confidence in obtaining code approvals.”

MCRMA Elects Colin Yeates to Management Board

The Metal Cladding and Roofing Manufacturers Association (MCRMA) has elected SFS intec’s Sales and Marketing Director, Colin Yeates, to its management board.

Originally set up to represent the steel roll forming construction sector, the MCRMA has broadened its capabilities over the last 24 years to offer independent consultant membership and associate membership, involving other building component manufacturers – like SFS intec. As such, the organisation decided its management board needed an additional representative to reflect its growing member base and ensure all sectors are fully represented.

Colin Yeates, Sales and Marketing Director at SFS intec, comments: “The worst recession in living memory has resulted all too often in a drive to procure building products simply based on their cost. The cheapest product is bought and the future consequences of that sole decision simply aren’t considered. Representative of the problem is the fact that, in many cases, issues around quality, installation and especially performance have still not improved.

“SFS intec has played an active role in the MCRMA for over 20 years, so it is a real privilege to be given a personal role on the management board. In this position I am anxious to support initiatives and activities that drive innovative performance over time, life cycle cost planning – taking cost out – and best practice joined-up thinking, between like-minded manufacturers. This way, as an industry, we can ensure clients get the performance they deserve and over time, the lowest cost.

“As the UK moves out of recession and clients once again invest billions in their building needs, regulations bring additional challenges on issues such as acoustics, ever improved energy conservation and most importantly, value for money, high performance build programs. I look forward to having the opportunity to contribute to the future strategy of the organisation.”

Carlton Jones, Director of MCRMA, says: “The MCRMA constantly seeks to invest in and work with competent organisations, in a serious effort to demonstrate and benchmark best practice across the industry.

“We have worked with SFS intec’s team for a number of years now. Colin has often championed the cause for high performance building components and will be a great addition to the management board.”

The MCRMA will celebrate its 25th anniversary next year and currently has 29 members across all three categories – full members, associate members and independent inspectors.

With its headquarters in Heerbrugg, Switzerland, SFS intec also has manufacturing operations in, France, Italy, America and the UK.
