Antis Roofing & Waterproofing Receives Community Involvement Award

In recognition of its continuous efforts to help the people of Orange County by keeping roofs over their heads and helping dozens of local charitable organizations, Antis Roofing & Waterproofing, Irvine, Calif., has been presented with the fifth annual CNA/NRCA Community Involvement Award co-sponsored by the National Roofing Contractors Association (NRCA) and CNA.

The award honors charitable works performed by NRCA contractor members.

Antis Roofing & Waterproofing was selected for its nonprofit organization The Antis Foundation. Founded in 2016, the Antis Foundation actively supports many local charities, including Habitat for Humanity, Orange County Ronald McDonald House, Pediatric Cancer Research Foundation and Alzheimer’s Orange County.

The Antis Foundation helps these organizations through its employee volunteer program, charitable grants, corporate and nonprofit collaborations, and pro-bono roofing work.

CNA awarded Antis Roofing & Waterproofing with $7,500 to be used in support of The Antis Foundation.

Additionally, second-place winner Advanced Roofing Inc., Fort Lauderdale, Fla., will receive $5,000 for its ongoing support of the Sonrise Mission, a faith-based rehabilitation program for adults with life-controlling dependency issues.

Third-place winner, Academy Roofing, Aurora, Colo., will receive $2,500 for its work with the Rose Andom Center, which assists victims of domestic violence.

The awards were presented March 2 during NRCA’s Awards Ceremony and Cocktail Reception held during NRCA’s 130th Annual Convention in Las Vegas.

Roofing Industry Alliance for Progress is Accepting Nominations for MVP Award

The Roofing Industry Alliance for Progress announces it is accepting nominations for its 2016-17 Most Valuable Player (MVP) Award program. In its 18th year, the MVP Award Program honors a maximum of 10 outstanding roofing workers. One winner will be chosen as Professional Roofing’s Best of the Best, an honor co-sponsored by OMG Roofing Products.

The MVP Award Program recognizes leadership in the field. Roofing contractor firms can nominate any field roofing worker, foreman or superintendent. No more than three nominations per company branch will be accepted. Distributors and supplier firms may nominate up to five warehouse employees, warehouse foremen, drivers or equipment operators. Self-nominations are not accepted.

Criteria by which nominees will be evaluated include outstanding on-the-job performance; on-the-job safety performance; contributions to a team effort; community service and volunteerism; and other noteworthy contributions and activities.

Entries may be submitted by completing an official entry form, providing detailed descriptions of specific attributes, activities and other factors that make individuals noteworthy or unique. All entries must be submitted by Nov. 18, 2016.

MVP winners will receive two complimentary airfares and two nights’ hotel accommodations during NRCA’s 130th Annual Convention in Las Vegas; one complimentary conference registration and exhibit hall pass to the 2017 International Roofing Expo; two complimentary tickets to the NRCA Industry Awards Ceremony and Cocktail Reception where winners and their companies will be formally honored; a $100 American Express gift card; recognition in Professional Roofing magazine, NRCA’s For Members Only newsletter and on The Roofing Industry Alliance for Progress website; and recognition in a press release sent to local media and industry trade press.

Although roofing is Canonsburg, Pa.-based CentiMark Corp.’s business, giving back to the community is the company’s commitment. Dedicated to helping people in need, CentiMark offers volunteer or financial support to hundreds of charities across North America that serve the hungry, homeless, at-risk children and families, domestic-violence victims, veterans and senior citizens.

Edward B. Dunlap, founder, chairman and CEO of the 46-year-old roofing company, leads by example in business and philanthropy. Since the early days of the company, Dunlap supported those in need in his community and encouraged volunteerism from his associates. “Giving back to the community has not shaped the CentiMark culture; it is the CentiMark culture,” says Timothy M. Dunlap, CentiMark’s president and chief operating officer. “The culture of giving back and volunteering has been ingrained in us for years. Now, as our company grows, we have more resources to help people.”

For example, in July 2014, 60 of CentiMark’s 80 offices throughout North America held food drives and made financial donations to food banks in their respective communities as part of National Roofing Week, sponsored by NRCA. They did the same thing last Thanksgiving, and they will do it again this Thanksgiving.

As part of their regular Friday routine, CentiMark corporate associates take turns delivering Meals on Wheels, a program near and dear to the heart of Edward Dunlap. “We are committed to the senior citizens in our community who need our help,” he states. Last summer, in the middle of a heat wave in western Pennsylvania, Dunlap instructed his associates to purchase and install air conditioners and fans in the homes of the seniors on the Meals on Wheels route who did not have the cooling appliances.

The company especially is committed to children and families. CentiMark associates teach Junior Achievement and host field trips at their corporate offices to show students how a business works. CentiMark Foundation Executive Director John Rudzik continues to teach Junior Achievement after 35 years. He remembers, “Even when I was a busy CFO and thought I didn’t have time to teach, Ed Dunlap told me I did have the time.” In addition, CentiMark associates regularly stuff backpacks for Blessings in a Backpack programs to provide meals for children on the weekends.

Each year, CentiMark corporate associates deliver Back-to-School, Christmas, and Easter food and gifts to families in need and non-profit organizations. “When you give a child a book bag, school supplies, school clothes and shoes, you not only make their
day, but you reinforce the importance of education,” Edward Dunlap notes. “Plus the peer pressure is so great for children who do not have the latest book bag or school shoes. We try to help the parents who cannot afford all the back-to-school or holiday items.”

“Our non-profit partners tell us: ‘This was the first Easter basket that this child has received’, ” Rudzik adds. “Parents tell us: ‘There would not have been Christmas at our house without your help’. ”

“At CentiMark, we walk, run, bike and golf for charity; we teach school students; we deliver meals; we shop for winter coats; we place Christmas wreaths on veterans’ graves; we support people in need; and we give of our time,” Tim Dunlap says. “We take great pride in our success as a roofing company because our success enables us to increase our charitable and volunteer endeavors.”

The Roofing Industry Alliance for Progress has announced the winners of its 14th Annual Most Valuable Player (MVP) Awards, recognizing outstanding roofing workers from Dallas; Aurora, Colo.; Quakertown, Pa.; and Canonsburg, Pa.

The MVP Awards program honors roofing professionals based on their significant contributions in one or more of the following areas: outstanding on-the-job performance, on-the-job safety performance, contributions to a team effort, community service and volunteerism, and other noteworthy contributions.

The 2014 MVP Award winners are:

  • Javier Contreras, foreman for Chamberlin Roofing & Waterproofing, Dallas
  • Jim Dieckmen, superintendent for Academy Roofing, Inc., Aurora, Colo.
  • Roberto Valdez, superintendent for Supreme Roofing Systems, Inc., Dallas

  • Coy Wilson, foreman for CentiMark Corp., Canonsburg, Pa.

Additionally, the Alliance named the following MVP Award finalists:

The Alliance also named Valdez as a finalist for outstanding on-the-job performance, on-the-job safety performance and other noteworthy contributions, respectively, and Watts as a finalist for on-the-job safety performance.
