Roofing Material

CertainTeed, a North American manufacturer of sustainable building materials, has launched Flintlastic GTA CoolStar Ultra as the latest addition to its torch-down commercial roofing solutions. Moreover, Flintlastic GTA CoolStar Ultra has achieved Title 31 Compliance, also known as the Green Building Standards Code, to meet the needs of commercial contractors in Southern California and beyond.

The Green Building Standards Code requires new buildings in Los Angeles County to incorporate roofing materials that react to solar energy in ways that conventional roofs cannot. Flintlastic GTA CoolStar Ultra provides a cool roof solution that meets some of the most stringent building standards and maximizes energy efficiency, environmental sustainability, and increases occupant comfort.

CertainTeed’s Flintlastic GTA CoolStar Ultra membrane surfacing utilizes naturally occurring aggregate processed to ultra-high brightness to enhance reflectivity. These bright white granules are 100% opaque to UV radiation, protecting the asphaltic membrane from UV degradation while maintaining granule adhesion with superior solar reflectance.

“CertainTeed continues to evolve its current portfolio of commercial roofing products to make it easier for professionals to comply with ever-changing building standards,” said Ted Winslow, Product Manager, Commercial Roofing at CertainTeed. “The launch of Flintlastic GTA CoolStar Ultra not only delivers exceptional waterproofing performance, but also meets Title 31 compliance requirements in Los Angeles County to give building owners and contractors more solutions for their roofing projects.”

Cool roofs reflect more sunlight and reduce heat absorption, which aids in mitigating the urban heat island effect, reduces smog formation, and decreases peak electricity usage. CertainTeed’s new Flintlastic GTA CoolStar Ultra fulfills the demand from contractors and building owners seeking reliable, sustainable commercial roofing solutions meeting these cool roof standards.

The CoolStar Ultra line includes premier APP torch down solutions Flintlastic GTA CoolStar Ultra and Flintlastic GTA-FR CoolStar Ultra, which is anticipated to launch Summer 2025. CertainTeed also plans to continue to extend its broader commercial roofing portfolio in order to keep up with the demand for Title 31-compliant solutions in the coming years.

In addition to Title 31, the existing CoolStar line is Title 24 compliant across the entire state of California, promoting energy efficiency in new homes and commercial buildings.
