GAF Statesboro, Ga., Facility Now Producing Full Line of Roof Insulation Panels

GAF is pleased to announce that its Statesboro, Ga., manufacturing facility has begun producing the full line of GAF Cornell ThermaCal Nail Base Roof Insulation Panels. In December of 2013, GAF purchased the operating assets of Cornell Corporation, effectively launching GAF’s entry into the ventilated nail base business. The resulting GAF Cornell brand combines two companies with reputations for manufacturing innovative, high-quality, premium products.

Started in 1954, Cornell was an innovator in the insulated roof panel industry. In 1979, the company developed a new form of roof insulation called “nail base roof insulation” panels under the ThermaCal brand name. This development enabled insulating buildings and homes with cathedral ceilings, while providing a pre-attached substrate that overlying roof coverings could be fastened to, such as asphalt shingles, tile, metal, or slate.

Subsequently, Cornell developed a ventilated version of its ThermaCal nail base panels, which not only provides the benefits of insulation, but also ventilation. The ventilated system helps exhaust excess moisture before it can condense in the deck or the roofing system potentially causing damage. The ventilated ThermaCal product (now called ThermaCal 1 and ThermaCal 2 Ventilated Roof Insulation Panels) proved to be a great advancement in the steep-slope roofing industry and provided an energy-saving solution for popular roof designs.
