IKO Dedicates New Production Facility in Hagerstown, Maryland

IKO held an official grand opening ceremony for its newest production facility in Hagerstown, Maryland.

IKO held an official grand opening ceremony for its newest production facility in Hagerstown, Maryland. Customers toured the state-of-the-art facility as Hagerstown debuted as the first commercial roofing facility launched in the United States by IKO since its founding in 1951. The company is manufacturing Innovi thermoplastic polyolefin (TPO) roofing membrane engineered for commercial roofing installations. Dedicated to maximizing efficiency and productivity, the plant is designed to have a reduced carbon footprint resulting in net-zero wastage of the TPO product itself. IKO also produces IKOTherm polyisocyanurate insulation at the same facility, resulting in beneficial shipping opportunities.

The TPO teams highlighted the performance characteristics of the highly innovative product, Innovi, showcasing Matrix chemistry and manufacturing technologies. Thermoplastic polyolefin membranes continue to be one of the most desired roofing membranes in the North American commercial market. Hagerstown will supply all of Canada and select geographies in the United States.

According to Mike Mendoza, Director of Single Ply Systems, the new flagship facility is another key step forward in our company’s long-term strategic expansion plans. “IKO has made significant investments in expanding both its product lines and its manufacturing footprint in the U.S. market,” said Mendoza. “This TPO plant will help to establish the IKO brand and its Innovi product line as a significant player for U.S. commercial roofing in the same way we are already a preferred brand in the residential market. While TPO may be new to IKO, we have decades of experience in the commercial market globally to leverage as we introduce commercial roofers to IKO in the United States.”

IKO is a family-run global business. Various members of the IKO team celebrated by cutting the ceremonial ribbon to launch the grand opening. The 500,000-square-foot facility represents a $70 million investment for the company. Various suppliers, media, and elected dignitaries attended the event. Carol Perkins, Director of Marketing Services, stated that “local officials were particularly impressed that IKO brought American-made products and jobs to the community.”

Employees’ families were invited to visit and tour the facility because gratitude and inclusion are values important to the owners and within the company. “Overall, it was a very successful celebration, and IKO is proud to be fully operational in Hagerstown,” added Perkins. “Special thanks were given to everyone who contributes to the continued success of IKO,”.
