IKO Joins Canada Green Building Council

IKO, a company working in the roofing, waterproofing and insulation industries for residential and commercial markets, announced its membership in the Canada Green Building Council (CAGBC). This association aligns with IKO’s commitment to advancing sustainability initiatives as the company looks toward 2025.

The company had appointed Darren Rafter as its Director of Sustainability earlier this year, strengthening its drive toward impactful sustainability initiatives across its operations. As part of CAGBC, IKO will collaborate with a nationwide network dedicated to promoting green building practices and reducing carbon emissions in line with the industry’s best practices.

“Joining the Canada Green Building Council is a natural next step in our sustainability journey,” said Rafter. “This association will help us engage more deeply with the green building community and explore new opportunities to innovate while contributing to a sustainable future for our industry.”

As a CAGBC corporate member, IKO gains access to valuable industry resources, including green building education, advocacy initiatives, and insights from CAGBC’s market research. As part of its ongoing sustainability efforts, IKO has made considerable progress on key projects at its plants, primarily the commissioning of its Recycled Asphalt Shingle (RAS) Line at the Hawkesbury plant and its multiple partnerships with asphalt shingle waste recyclers, enabling IKO to supply manufacturing waste asphalt shingles from facilities across North America, diverting materials that would otherwise end up in landfills. The company is also proud to have commissioned its third rooftop solar installation at its Hagerstown, Maryland facility in September.
