Marathon Roofing Products Announces Aluminator Retrofit Drains Meet IPC and UPC Requirements

Marathon Roofing Products announced that the company’s Aluminator Retrofit Drains have been certified to conform with ASME A112.6.4 and CSA‐B79 standards. The Aluminator now meets both the International Plumbing Code (IPC) and the Uniform Plumbing Code (UPC) requirements for using in re-roofing applications in the United States and Canada.

The Marathon Aluminator Drains in sizes of 3 inches, 4 inches, and 5 inches now meet these standards. The 6-inch drain needs to be supplied with the 12-inch Aluminum Strainer and 12-inch Metal Clamping Ring to be certified. The 3-inch, 4-inch, and 5-inch drains include the 10-inch Aluminum Strainer, 10-inch Aluminum Clamping Ring, Proseal, and or PVC or TPO coating of the flange for direct membrane attachment. The certification was completed by QAI, which is accredited by the Standards Council of Canada (SCC) and International Accreditation Service (IAS) as a third–party product certification body.

ASME A112.6.4: This Standard establishes minimum design requirements for roof drains, including general purpose, gutter and cornice, parapet and promenade, balcony, or deck types, which convey rainwater from the roof area of building structures. It includes definitions, nomenclature, outlet types and connections, dome or grate-free area, top loading classifications, materials and finishes, and accessories.

CSA B79: This is the Canadian Standard that specifies requirements for commercial and residential (a) area drains; (b) balcony drains; (c) deck drains; (d) floor drains; (e) roof drains; (f) shower drains; (g) trench drains; and (h) cleanouts. This Standard covers the following subjects: (a) materials; (b) design requirements for (i) connections; (ii) fasteners; (iii) grates; (iv) cleanout covers; (v) backwater valves; and (vi) integral traps; (c) tests for (i) loading; (ii) backwater valve tightness; (iii) sealing; and (iv) corrosion; and (d) markings.

The Aluminator Drain will be supplied with a sticker on the drain body notifying all that the drain meets current plumbing codes. The listing will also be available on QAI’s website, https://qai.org

Aluminator Drains also meet the ANSI/SPRI RD1 standard that requires the seal to hold a 10 foot (3m) column of water for 24 hours without leaking.
