NRCA Mourns Its Former President

The National Roofing Contractors Association (NRCA) is saddened by the passing of Mike Promen after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease on Feb. 2 at the age of 72. Promen was former owner of Broadview, Ill.-based Clark Roofing Co. and served as NRCA president from 2001-02.

“His was a remarkable story: turning a small family business into an innovative company,” says NRCA Executive Vice President Bill Good. “More than that, Mike was a great leader who enjoyed life to the fullest.”

In addition to serving as NRCA’s president, Promen also chaired several committees and task forces during his NRCA tenure, including the Membership Committee; Insurance Board of Governors; Education Operating Committee; Public Relations Committee; Headquarters Building Task Force; Audit, Budget and Finance Committee; Convention Committee and Exhibitor Advisory Committee; Affiliate Relations Committee; Energy and Environment Task Force; and Factory Mutual Contractor Approval Standard Task Force.

He also was the 2010 recipient of the J.A. Piper Award, NRCA’s highest honor.

NRCA offers its condolences to his two daughters, Michele Hernandez (wife of NRCA Director Alex Hernandez) and Jennifer Nielsen; four grandchildren, Christopher, Kara, Patrick and Peter; and former wife Judy Promen.
