The 600-square-meter flat roof was securely fixed in place using a new heat-induction welding tool combined with a chalk marker indication system for speed and efficiency.

The insulation boards were fixed to the profiled steel deck in a field-fix pattern, using FI-R thermally broken sleeves; BS-6,1 fasteners; and isoweld stress plates. The waterproof membrane was then applied, the stress plate positions marked up with chalk and the isoweld stress plates induction-welded to the waterproof membrane. The user-friendly isoweld 3000 machine ensured consistently strong welding.

Roof Report

Alex Owens, Procclad’s operations manager, comments: “We are the first contractor in Scotland to use this new in-novation from SFS intec, which demonstrates our determination to embrace new technology and the advantages that it brings to our industry. Using the isoweld 3000 system, we had complete confidence that the installation would provide for a secure and straightforward application.”

Owens adds the security functions built into the machine ensured welding would only occur when the inductor was over the stress plate, which was located using the search-and-control function. The ergonomic tool features wheels for maneuverability and a height-adjustable handle. Automatic adjustments according to the ambient temperature are integrated into the system, as are compensation factors for current variations. This helps installers achieve an optimum fixing quality without concerns of human error.

SFS intec provided a comprehensive supplier support package, which included contract-specific wind-uplift calculations, fixing layouts and onsite training, combined with frequent site visits during installation.
