Synthetic Shake Chosen for Chaska Town Course Clubhouse

When a golf course is scheduled to host a major event, it’s naturally a good time to spruce up the greens. In the case of Chaska Town Course in Chaska, Minnesota, city officials went a step further, making the decision to move forward and replace an old, deteriorating real cedar roof on their clubhouse.

In preparation for the United States Amateur Championships, which came to Chaska in August 2024, the city of Chaska decided it was time to move ahead with a previously scheduled upgrade to their clubhouse. The Chaska Town Course is a public course owned and operated by the city, so public funding was granted for the upgrade. A new Select Shake roof in Aged Cedar from DaVinci Roofscapes was chosen to perfectly complement the setting for the combination stroke play and match play venue that received worldwide attention.

“We had previously used DaVinci Roofscapes composite shakes on a well pumphouse at the Town Course entrance,” says Nick Hartwig, facilities maintenance foreman with the City of Chaska Building Department. “Both the look and performance of the synthetic shake were the reasons we easily made the decision to use the same product on the clubhouse roof.”

Town Course a Total Success

With deep, authentic grooves, Select Shake profiles uniquely resemble natural cedar shakes. The multi-width tiles are available in 8- and 10-inch widths. Each tile is 22-inches long and 5/8-inches thick.

The 10-inch wide Select Shake pieces have a simulated keyway. This gives the appearance of 4- and 6- inch width shakes placed together on the clubhouse roof. As with all other DaVinci products, the composite tiles resist rotting, cracking, insects and fading, making for low maintenance for the City of Chaska.

“Installation of this project was a total success,” says Clint Aretz with Allied Construction out of Mayer, Minnesota. “We’ve done other Select Shake installations on this golf course. The clubhouse roof creates a unified appearance. And the Aged Cedar color is extremely natural looking. It blends in with the wooded setting.”

“A bonus for Town Course is the minimal maintenance this DaVinci product requires,” Aretz continues. “It’s an easy-care roofing material with a long lifespan. Best of all, the look they see today is what they’ll see for decades into the future.”
