Although the selection of this particular roofing system was easy, the installation presented a few challenges. The hotel\u2019s roof includes a cell tower, containing a telecommunication terminal for all of Ohio. The installers had to be careful to avoid interference with the terminal when removing the original roof, as well as applying the new system. In addition, the mortar in some of the walls of the penthouse was deteriorating. The installation team had to flash in the ALSAN RS liquid system to keep water from penetrating and getting into the new roof system.<\/p>\n

When the reroofing project began, installers first needed to remove the old coal-tar roof from the structural deck of the concrete building. Next, the deck was primed using Elastocol 500 and then a SOPRALENE 180 SP vapor barrier was heat-applied. This particular vapor barrier is commonly used in northern Ohio when reroofing.<\/p>\n

Following the vapor barrier, the installation package was ready to be glued down using DUOTACK, SOPREMA\u2019s low-rise foam adhesive. SOPRABOARD cover board was applied, followed by a layer of heat-applied SOPRALENE Flam 180 and then a heat-applied cap sheet of SOPRALENE Flam 180 FR GR. To finish the project, ALSAN RS 230, a PMMA two-part rapid-curing liquid flashing product, was applied over top in a custom color to match the roof to the aesthetic of the building.<\/p>\n

Open since 2002, the Hilton Garden Inn stands 11-stories high and has 240 rooms. The hotel is within walking distance to Progressive Field and the CSU Wolstein Center, and is close to other downtown Cleveland entertainment and dining. The hotel features a business center, pool, fitness center and more. The reroofing project took place in summer 2014.<\/p>\n

Flexible and lightweight thin-film CIGS solar panels recently were installed over the two Tele2 logos on the modern multi-venue arena\u2019s roof.<\/p>\n

CIGS stands for copper-indium-gallium-selenium, a metal alloy that converts the energy of light directly into electricity by the photovoltaic effect. The CIGS absorber is deposited on a stainless-steel substrate, along with electrodes on the front to collect current. The cells are then connected in series and covered by a protective layer of plastic to form a flexible solar module.<\/p>\n

The type of membrane roofs normally used on arenas cannot take the load of traditional silicon panels. Because a stainless-steel substrate is used, the CIGS solar modules can be made without glass. The CIGS solar modules are, therefore, lighter, flexible and can be made frameless, to suit applications where traditional silicon solar cells cannot be used. In addition, the solar cells used on the venue are free of cadmium, a toxic material usually used in CIGS and other thin-film solar cells.<\/p>\n

Tele2 Arena, which opened in late 2013, is one of the world\u2019s most modern venues with free Wi-Fi, 600 digital screens, Stadium Vision technology, a retractable roof and transparent fa\u00e7ade. The venue is mostly used for concerts and football matches. The arena has a capacity of up to 33,000 spectators for football matches and 45,000 for concerts. Spectators in the front row are only 6 meters from the sidelines.<\/p>\n

To complete the job, the contractors installed labor-saving prefabricated SecurEdge 3000 edge metal, providing a professional finished look.<\/p><\/div>\n

The Shriners Building Committee was looking for the most durable, long-lasting, low-maintenance roof available. Specialized Roofing and the Beacon Supply rep group put together specifications and a proposal and presented them to the Shriners Building Committee. After reviewing its options, the committee chose Specialized Roofing and a 90-mil black EPDM roof system with a 30-year warranty.<\/p>\n

The auditorium\u2019s existing roof consisted of a 17-year-old mechanically fastened PVC assembly atop a 30-year-old built-up system. Specialized Roofing began by removing everything down to the steel deck. Next, the crew installed 3 1\/2-inch-thick 25 psi HP-H flat polyiso to keep the building warm and reduce its heating bills and energy consumption during the long Massachusetts winters.<\/p>\n

After fastening the insulation every 2 square feet, Specialized Roofing\u2019s crew fully adhered sheets of 10- by 100-foot black Sure-Seal EPDM with 6-inch Factory-Applied Tape (FAT). FAT improves the speed and quality of EPDM installations, as well as increases the reliability and performance of the seams. Black EPDM is a smart choice in cold, northern climates because it can reduce heating costs, decrease safety hazards from snow and ice accumulation, and diminish the potential for condensation problems that can negatively impact the roof system\u2019s performance.<\/p>\n

To complete the job, the contractors installed labor-saving prefabricated SecurEdge 3000 edge metal, providing a professional finished look. Once the roof was complete, it was inspected by a Carlisle Syntec Systems field service representative. Specialized Roofing\u2019s quality workmanship was apparent and the Shriners received a 30-year Total System Warranty.<\/p>\n

Formed in 1872, the Shriners organization is best known for colorful parades; the red fez hat worn by its members; and its official philanthropy, the Shriners Hospitals for Children. Built in 1977, the Shriners Auditorium has been home to hundreds of events, from conventions and concerts to rodeos and roller derbies. Unfortunately, by 2014, the roof of this iconic fundraising venue was in poor condition and the building was plagued by frequent leaks. The auditorium needed a high-quality roofing system that would provide long-term protection.<\/p>\n

Founded in 1990, Specialized Roofing has earned a reputation for top-quality installations and excellent customer service. The company has operated under the same management team for more than 24 years, and most of its original crew members are still with the firm today. Specialized Roofing\u2019s 25 years\u2019 experience installing Carlisle roofs gave the Shriners organization confidence that the auditorium project would be completed quickly and efficiently with exceptional workmanship.<\/p>\n

Extensive coordination and strict scheduling was required; the auditorium continued to host events throughout the roof replacement and had to remain open and accessible for attendees. In addition, there were 18 HVAC units and 24 interior drains on the rooftop, as well as fan curbs, vent pipes and steel columns.<\/p>\n

Ernie Pearlstein, head of the Shriners Building Committee, states: \u201cFrom start to finish, we have been extremely pleased with the way the project progressed. Everyone worked as a team and the roof was installed quickly with no disruption to business operations. The collaboration of the Shriners, Specialized Roofing, Carlisle and Beacon rep group allowed every phase of the project to go smoothly.\u201d<\/p>\n
