Teams from six undergraduate universities are scheduled to compete in the third annual Construction Management Student Competition, hosted by The Roofing Industry Alliance for Progress. This marks the largest group to compete in the competition, which promotes careers in construction management. This year’s event will culminate with presentations at NRCA’s 130th Annual Convention and the 2017 International Roofing Expo (IRE) in Las Vegas.

According to the Alliance, the competition is part of an educational partnership with six schools of construction management: McWhorter School of Building Sciences at Auburn University, Auburn, Ala.; Department of Construction Management at Colorado State University, Fort Collins, Colo.; M.E. Rinker Sr. School of Building Construction at the University of Florida, Gainesville, Fla.; Tuskegee University, Tuskegee, Ala.; Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge, La.; and University of Cincinnati, Cincinnati, Ohio.

Teams participating in the 2017 Construction Management Student Competition were presented with a challenging problem: create a company to bid on installing a roof system on the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Each team was required to research the project, review the plans and specifications, and assemble an estimate and proposal to submit a qualified bid package. Goals included finding a competitive edge in their estimate to beat their competition while still maintaining a reasonable profit margin. For this project, it was important to decide on the correct application methods, show overall roofing knowledge, and illustrate a company team is prepared to undertake the project.

Oral presentations are scheduled to take place March 2 from 7:45 to 11:15 a.m. at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center (North Hall) Islander I. The winning team will be announced during NRCA’s Industry Awards Ceremony and Cocktail Reception held on March 2 and will receive a team trophy and a $5,000 L.B. Conway scholarship for their school. Members of the winning team also receive individual awards and recognition in Professional Roofing magazine, among other promotions.

For more information about the student competition, call Bennett Judson, the executive director of the Alliance, at (800) 323-9545, ext. 7513, or email him at bjudson@roofingindustryalliance.net.

Teams from six undergraduate universities are scheduled to compete in the third annual Construction Management Student Competition, hosted by The Roofing Industry Alliance for Progress….

"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paywalled_content":false,"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false

The #RoofingIndustryAllianceforProgress @AlisonNRCA Hosts #ConstructionManagement #StudentCompetition at @RoofingExpo
[8
6799,1808,4,958,6800
