For retrofit applications, options suit the requirements of any project and all are designed for quick, easy installation. Aluminum and copper outlets are available. Flange material choices include aluminum, asphalt, copper and—for contractors who prefer to heat-weld the flange to the outlet—TPO and PVC. All drains are available in multiple sizes with elevated strainer ring risers to increase water flow through the drain and clamping rings with undersides that ensure the drain ring is tightly secured to the roof membrane.

Octocool introduces its air-conditioned shirts. More and more roofers have been taking up air-conditioned shirts as a means to combat the heat of the day’s work. Recent technology has allowed for compact fans to be placed inside of shirts, powered by a small battery in the pocket.

The specially designed, high-powered fans circulate body heat out of the sleeves and collar, which lowers the temperature inside of the jacket and produces a cooling effect. Because the shirts are specifically designed for the average work shift, the battery lasts for 8.5 hours on the highest power setting, and more than 40 hours on the lowest power setting. While the difference in the rate of heat stroke among users and nonusers of this technology is yet to be seen, it is likely that the implementation of air-conditioned shirts in hot work environments is a trend that will continue into the future.

In the unfortunate event of a fall, a fall-arrest harness protects the worker, but as his hard hat continues its descent, a fall-arrest harness won’t protect the worksite. Designed for use with all fall-protection harness systems, the RT5-5601 and RT5-5602 Hard Hat Retractable Tethering Systems are weight-tested to safely secure all commonly used industrial hard hats. The main difference is how each attaches to the worker.

The RT5-5601 is easily attached with Velcro strap loops and cinches around the fall protection harness strap, ring or tri-bar while the RT5-5602 employs a threaded stud that securely attaches to a garment with structure such as coveralls or vest. The RT5-5601 and RTS-5602 use a sturdy, industrial-grade spectra/nylon line that extends up to 14 inches. For additional safety, they both feature a gentle 2.5-ounce retraction force that takes up any unused slack to avoid entanglement by keeping the lanyard close to the body.

When workers are ready to call it a day, Gear Keeper’s patented Quick Connect System allows the hard hat to be easily disconnected without completely removing the lanyard’s base. F5 Air & Vapor Barrier is compatible with a wide variety of roofing systems and can be used on primed substrates, including concrete, plywood, exterior gypsum, DensDeck Prime and SECUROCK. It also can serve as a temporary roof for up to 120 days while work on the finished roofing system is completed.

The membrane is a 40 mil-thick composite consisting of 35 mils of self-adhering rubberized asphalt laminated to a 5 mil-thick woven polypropylene film. Rolls are 39 inches wide and 75 feet long and cover approximately 244 square feet of substrate surface.

F5 Air & Vapor Barrier’s factory-controlled thickness helps ensure that the membrane has uniform barrier properties, reducing moisture movement through the roofing system and helping keep conditioned air inside the building and unconditioned air outside.
