ATAS International Hosts Architects During Anniversary Conference

ATAS International hosted members of the Society of American Registered Architects during their 60th anniversary conference in Arizona.  Over 35 SARA members attended an educational presentation and toured ATAS’ manufacturing facility in Mesa, earning learning units for both activities.  David Srokose, architectural business development manager at ATAS, presented on sustainable building envelopes, and Dick Bus, president of ATAS, led the plant tour, which was followed by lunch for the guests.
 
During the educational presentation, attendees learned how metal cladding on roofs and walls can contribute to green building objectives, and how metal walls can use sunlight to provide a building with solar air heating.  Cool roof technologies, including UV reflective pigments and above sheathing ventilation, were discussed, as well as how metal roofing can provide a solar ready platform for photovoltaic systems.
 
Dick Bus states, “We were pleased to welcome the SARA members to our Mesa, Ariz., facility while they were in the area for their annual conference.  The plant tour allowed our guests to view the equipment and processes used to fabricate metal components for the building envelope.  All attendees were invited to visit our Allentown, Pa., headquarters, if they are ever in the area.”

ATAS National Sales Manager Receives Award

Mark Bus, national sales manager of ATAS International, received a Metal Construction Association Triumph Award at METALCON in Baltimore.  He was recognized as being someone who demonstrates excellence, creativity and initiative in his or her business or profession.
 
Jim Bush, vice president of Sales and Marketing states, “I have had the pleasure of watching Mark mature over the years to a young and emerging professional; not only within ATAS but also in the industry.  He has earned the respect of the ATAS sales team, as well as peers and management, through hard work and a sound decision making process.  Mark is also aware of industry initiatives and association activities and brings those into daily communications with staff and customers.”
 
An ATAS distributor, Allan Brock of Brock Associates, says, “During my forty year tenure in the commercial metal roofing and siding industry, I have rarely crossed paths with a young professional like Mark Bus.  I have seen Mark evolve from an inside technical sales person, to a regional product representative, to management.  At each level, he radiated professionalism along with product and technical knowledge.  It’s been a pleasure dealing with an individual as capable as Mark.”
 
Robert J. Bailey, AIA, CSI, CCS, LEED AP, specifications and constructability specialist with IKM Inc., also recommended Mark Bus for this award.  “Mark makes it a point to understand the people who are specifying and purchasing ATAS products.  As a new product rep in western Pennsylvania, he became involved in various CSI (Construction Specifications Institute) chapters.  It was clear to me that Mark knew in order to be prepared for a leadership role in ATAS, he first needed to understand the industry itself and establish important contacts and relationships there.  Mark is an example for other young sales professionals.”

ATAS International Inc. Program Expands Knowledge of Manufacturing, Career Opportunities

In celebration of Manufacturing Day 2016, ATAS International Inc. opened their doors on to area students to expand their knowledge of manufacturing.  Schools that were represented are Lehigh Career and Technical Institute, Schnecksville; Sacred Heart School, Allentown; Parkland School District, Allentown; and Career Institute of Technology, Easton.
 
This program was designed to expand knowledge of manufacturing and improve public perception of today’s manufacturing career opportunities.  Students were able to tour the ATAS facility to experience first-hand the processes in which metal components for the building envelope are manufactured.  They also viewed a panel discussion consisting of several ATAS employees, who spoke about their positions in departments that include production, marketing, sales, technical services and human resources. Students learned that every person within a manufacturing company must work together to produce a product and provide service to their customers.
 
Manufacturing Day is an annual national event executed at the local level supported by thousands of manufacturers as they host students, teachers, parents, job seekers and other local community members at open houses, plant tours and presentations designed to showcase modern manufacturing technology and careers.  Studies show that almost 80 percent of Americans believe manufacturing is important to our economic prosperity, standard of living, and national security.  Yet only 30 percent of those surveyed would encourage their children to go into manufacturing careers.  This is a trend that must be reversed and which Manufacturing Day seeks to address by giving people an opportunity to discover what modern manufacturing environments are really like.
 
“There is a demand for skilled professionals in the manufacturing sector who can design, program and operate technology”, says Jim Bus, executive vice president of ATAS International.  “The average age of a manufacturing employee is 56, and between now and 2020 there will be a shortage of skilled workers who will need to be replaced.”
 
Manufacturing Day is co-produced by the Fabricators & Manufacturers Association International (FMA), the National Association of Manufacturers (NAM), the Manufacturing Institute (MI), and the National Institute of Standards and Technology’s (NIST) Hollings Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP).  Partners include Edge Factor and the Science Channel and guest producer, Industrial Strength Marketing.

ATAS International Inc. Participates In Fundraising Events

ATAS International Inc. had teams involved in two fundraising events held in the Lehigh Valley.
 
The Lehigh Valley Health Network Via Marathon celebrated their 10 year anniversary of this event.  ATAS had two teams in the 26.2 mile team relay.  Thousands of runners competed, and the event raised money to benefit Via, which provides services for children and adults with disabilities.  This is the fourth consecutive year that ATAS has participated, and it’s the first year they had two teams entered.
 
Four employees participated in the inaugural Lehigh Valley 9/11 Heroes Run for the Travis Manion Foundation.  Over 250 runners, walkers and volunteers participated, raising over $6,500.  The money will be used to empower veterans and families of fallen heroes to develop character in future generations.
 
Peg Bus, human resources manager of ATAS, participated in the Via Marathon.  She states, “We fully support the employees of ATAS in giving back to our community by participating in many different fundraising events throughout the year.  I was proud to run for such a worthwhile cause, and to run beside those with whom I work.”

ATAS International welcomed product distributors from several countries to the ATAS headquarters in Allentown, Pa.  The guests, all of whom were ATAS product distributors, gathered for education sessions, a plant tour, and information exchanges.  ATAS continues to grow their export business and develop relationships with distributors throughout the world.

Joao DaCosta, director of international business development for ATAS, states, “We are pleased to receive our international distributors for the second biennial meeting.  The four day event has been full of collaborative ideas and enthusiastic networking.  Our guests shared their business experience with ATAS and each other, and all left with new and renewed global relationships.”
 
DaCosta, who is also a professor of international business and global supply chain at Baruch College of The City University of New York (CUNY) in New York City, sees the Greater Lehigh Valley area as a strategic location for the manufacturing industry and for continued growth in the exporting of products.

ATAS International Presents at Metal Design Solutions Conference

Jim Bush, vice president of sales and marketing for ATAS International, will be presenting the AIA/CES course on “Two Stage Method of Weatherproofing Utilizing Single Skin Metal Panels” at the inaugural Metal Design Solutions Conference. This Chicago market event is being offered by the Metal Construction Association on Wednesday, Oct. 19, at the Hyatt Rosemont in Rosemont, Ill.

The conference was developed to continue career development for architects, engineers, specifiers, and design professionals eager to learn the latest about advanced design with metal. It will feature a total of ten educational sessions on a variety of topics regarding the use of metal in the design and construction of buildings. There are five educational tracks offered throughout the day, with a choice of two different courses in each of the five time slots. Courses are approved by the American Institute of Architects’ Continuing Education System, and attendees will earn learning units. Lunch will be provided at the event and representatives from metal building product companies will be displaying their products and answering questions.

Three additional Metal Design Solutions Conferences will be held later this year, including one in Baltimore on Friday, Oct. 28, (in conjunction with METALCON), one in the Atlanta market on Wednesday, Nov. 16, and one in the Dallas market in early December.

Jim Bush, who is also on the executive board of the Metal Construction Association, stated “We are enthusiastic about introducing the Metal Design Solutions Conference. This series further defines the Metal Construction Association as a leader in education, technical support and information for metal cladding and component systems.”

Event Details for MCA Metal Roofing Championship Games

Celebrating its 3rd Annual metal roofing challenges to be held at Metalcon October 26 and 27 in Baltimore, MD, the MCA Metal Roofing Championship Games Task Force finalizes event details.

This year, there will be five challenges each day under the appropriately named theme; “Battle Stars Over Baltimore” in recognition of our Star Spangled Banner birthplace. Each day, 5 teams with 2 contestants each will compete to split a $500 cash award in each of the challenges, or $2,500 total each day. In addition to these cash awards, there will be a Grand Prize each day of $500 to the team that has accumulated the most points collectively from the 5 challenges. This represents a total of $6,000 being awarded over the course of the two-day competition.

The Challenges with each of their sponsoring MCA Members are as follows:

1. The Triangle Fastener Corporation “Screw Gun Challenge”, where contestants install a series of self-drilling fasteners into a structural zee-shaped purlin member. Fastest time, alignment and properly seated fasteners will determine the winning team.

2. The Roof Hugger Inc. “Hug A Roof Challenge”, where contestants will install 40 lineal feet of factory-notched zee-shaped sub-purlins on a mock-up existing ribbed metal roof paneled frame. Fastest time, properly seated fasteners and sub-purlin alignment will determine the winning team.

3. The New Tech Machinery with Drexel Metals “Standing Seam Challenge”, where contestants will install 6 each 16-inch wide metal roof panels over the factory-notched sub-purlins. Fastest time, correct clip attachment and properly seated panel seams will determine the winning team.

4. The D.I. Roof Seamers “Seam It Up Challenge”, where contestants will operate a standing seam roof seamer over the 16-inch wide metal roof panel seams. Fastest time and properly seamed panels will determine the winning team.

5. The S-5! “Let it Snow Challenge”, where contestants will install S-5! ColorGard® snow retention onto the 16-inch metal roof panels. Fastest time, properly seated fasteners and ColorGard® alignment will determine the winning team.
