Elastomeric Waterproofing Acrylic Seals Wood and Concrete Decks

DECK GUARDIAN from Nationwide Coatings

DECK GUARDIAN from Nationwide Coatings

DECK GUARDIAN from Nationwide Coatings is an elastomeric waterproofing acrylic, insulating ceramic, high build, wood and concrete deck-over coating. It is a high technology waterborne formulation of elastomeric and 100 percent acrylic resin resulting in a flexible, yet tough and
durable, aesthetically pleasing deck surface.

It can expand and contract with porous wood, yet is durable and hard enough to accommodate deck traffic. The product effectively penetrates, seals, waterproofs and protects new wood and aged wood while resisting moisture penetration, and subsequent rotting and decay, thus protecting against cracking, splitting and warping of wood.

DECK GUARDIAN can fill dimensionally unstable cracks up to 1/4 inch. It has excellent mildew resistance and possesses ultraviolet resisting trans-oxides and cerium nano-particles plus light stabilizing tinuvins that slow down the damaging effects of the sun’s U.V. rays. It protects and beautifies wood surfaces and can be tinted to most any color. Longevity and wear is relative to the amount of foot traffic to which the product is subjected. Periodic recoating of high traffic areas may be necessary.

DECK GUARDIAN has a sand pumice mixture additive called DECK GUARDIAN SKID-TEX that can be added prior to coating to create a beautiful texture finish with excellent anti-skid properties. The amount of DECK GUARDIAN SKID-TEX can be adjusted to be a light texture or heavy texture depending on desired preference. DECK GUARDIAN is ideal for waterproofing and restoration of damaged decks and patios instead of total replacement.

Restore Smooth, Mineral Asphalt and Metal Roofs with New Restoration Systems

Garland’s new Revitalizer restoration systems

Garland’s new Revitalizer restoration systems

Garland’s new Revitalizer restoration systems are easy to apply, cost-effective solutions designed to restore the wearing surfaces of smooth or mineral asphalt and metal roofs to better than the original. The multi-purpose, asphaltic, liquid waterproofing membranes effectively adhere to a variety of roof coatings, providing an additional 80 to 112 wet mils of waterproofing protection and helping to extend the life of the system.

The cold-process, low odor formulation of Revitalizer allows projects to proceed without disruption to the building’s operations and occupants. It also eliminates the need for kettles, heat sources and bulky rooftop equipment, making it extremely fast and simple to install. When combined with Garland’s Grip Polyester Firm reinforcement fabric, the Revitalizer system provides exceptional tensile strength and elongation. When using Revitalizer Metal, combine with Garland’s Grip Polyester Soft. The system easily conforms to surface irregularities and accommodates building movement without leaking, cracking, blistering or ridging.

ROOF MATERIALS

The Kempertec EP-Primer was used to prepare the substrate surfaces for membrane installation and served as a temporary waterproofing system, allowing the project to be exposed to the harsh New England winter while it was completed in phased stages.

The owners chose the Kemperol waterproofing and roofing membrane, a two-component with catalyst, high-performance, seamless and self-terminating cold-fluid-applied reinforced unsaturated polyester system. The monolithic edge-to-edge rot- and root-resistant Kemper membrane is engineered to resist degradation from UV exposure and heat intensity and is resistant to most common chemicals.

ROOF REPORT

Founded in 1811, Massachusetts General Hospital is the third oldest general hospital in the U.S. and the oldest and largest in New England. The 900-bed medical center offers sophisticated diagnostic and therapeutic care in virtually every specialty and subspecialty of medicine and surgery. When MGH’s owners envisioned constructing a new 9,000-square-foot green roof above the MGH cancer wing, they had two chief concerns: safety and long-term durability.

The landscaped roof design includes four different gardens with extensive shrubbery, trees and grass designed to provide cancer patients with a haven for relaxation and meditation to aid in the healing process.

A key challenge concerning the hospital’s green roof was its hundreds of penetrations, spaced inches apart, for a sprinkler system to irrigate the landscaped roof. A leak-detection system was installed across the entire square footage of the project to detect water before it seeps into the interior of the building. The leak-detection system confirms the project’s seal-tight success. Upon completion, Kemper System provided a 20-year, no-dollar-limit warranty.
