NRCA Names Charlie Raymond Award Winners

The National Roofing Contractors Association (NRCA) has announced the winners of the Charlie Raymond Award at its 127th Annual Convention held Feb. 26-28 in Las Vegas.

The 2014 Charlie Raymond Award contractor member winner is Nelson R. Braddy Jr., president and chief executive officer of King of Texas Roofing Co. LP and current NRCA president, of Grand Prairie, Texas. GAF, Wayne, N.J., received the award in the associate category.

Braddy is a three-time recipient of the contractor member award, and GAF has won in the associate category for four consecutive years.

The award is named in honor of former NRCA president and J.A. Piper Award winner Charlie Raymond, who took on the role of NRCA Membership Committee chairman when the association had only 328 members. He recruited NRCA’s 1,000th member in 1973. Each year in his memory, the Charlie Raymond Award honors contractors and associate members for their efforts to recruit new NRCA members.

GAF Gives Away $13,545 to a Lucky Builder During IBS

GAF has announced that Frank Thompson of Sweetwater Builders Inc. located in Cranberry, Pa., is the winner of its $13,545 giveaway held at the February 2014 International Builders Show in Las Vegas. All builders attending the show were eligible to be scanned at the GAF booth for entry into the contest.

Why $13,545? A recent survey of the NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF REALTORS, REALTOR appraisers estimated that GAF Timberline Lifetime Shingles can increase a home’s value by an average of 5 percent, compared to a roof using basic 3-tab shingles. With the average new home median price listed at $270,900 by the National Association of Home Builders as of November 2013, a 5 percent increase in home value from installing GAF Timberline Lifetime Shingles equates to $13,545

“With up to 40 percent or more of the curb appeal dominated by the roof, upgrading to a Timberline Lifetime shingle is a great way for a builder to differentiate their homes while increasing the value of the property,” states Emily Videtto, executive director of shingles and new product development at GAF.

GAF Expands Consumer Outreach with Duck Dynasty

GAF has expanded its consumer outreach through a multiplatform advertising campaign based around A&E Network’s top-rated program, Duck Dynasty. The media campaign was built around the company’s in-program appearance, with digital advertising on the show’s A&E website and the debut of a new national television commercial featuring the company’s distributor and contractor channel partners.

“Our partnership with Duck Dynasty provides us with a new avenue for reaching our consumers and promoting our Master Elite Contractors, GAF Premier Roofing Dealers, and GAF Pro-Grade Master Distributors in a unique way, while continuing to build the GAF brand,” explains Paul Bromfield, senior vice president of marketing and business development at GAF. “Our Timberline Shingles are the No. 1-selling shingles in North America, and were hand-picked by the Robertsons. Airing during a top show with such high viewership supports our position as the industry’s preferred brand, and builds on the brands of our contractors and distributors.”

Airing on A&E on Wednesdays at 10 p.m. EST, record-breaking Duck Dynasty is currently television’s most-watched nonfiction cable series. More than 11 million viewers tune in weekly to follow the Robertsons and their family-operated duck call business, Duck Commander.

In the Feb. 19 episode, GAF contractors used Timberline Lifetime Roofing Shingles to replace the aging roof of cast members Jep and Jessica Robertson’s home while featuring prominently branded GAF roofing materials. Simultaneously, the Robertson men were tasked with laying down a concrete pathway in front of the home, which resulted in a “race the roofers” home makeover challenge. The race was, of course, won by GAF’s professional contractor team in the single-day challenge.

The first segment of the show directly segued into the national debut of GAF’s commercial during the show’s initial commercial break. The 30-second advertisement highlights GAF Master Elite Contractors, GAF Premier Roofing Dealers, and GAF Pro-Grade Master Distributors. Television advertising will continue through the show’s current season.

Kid Rock and GAF Support American Investment at Next Week’s International Roofing Expo

GAF has announced that it will be holding an event with special guest Kid Rock at the International Roofing Expo (IRE) held in Las Vegas, Feb. 26-28. Guests are invited to have their photo taken with Kid Rock and receive an autographed photo at the event to be held across from the GAF’s IRE booth at 4:30 pm on Feb. 26.

In August 2013 at the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, GAF donated a motorcycle built by Orange County Choppers to war veteran Robert Dickey on stage at the Kid Rock concert. The collaboration led to the realization that GAF and Kid Rock share a mutual focus on creating jobs in America along with supporting and giving back to the military. One of the charities that Kid Rock strongly supports is Operation Finally Home, which provides custom-built, mortgage-free homes to America’s Heroes and their widows. Through their partnership, GAF will give back to this foundation by including Kid Rock in its summer contractor promotion. For each entry, GAF will make a donation to Operation Finally Home.

“Our relationship with Kid Rock has been a great experience, as we share some of the same ideals and understand the importance of investing in America and supporting our troops. GAF has an unparalleled level of investment in new roofing plants, and we actively working to bring new jobs and service on line at our upcoming facility at Cedar City, Utah,” explains Paul Bromfield, senior vice president of marketing and corporate development at GAF.

GAF to Air National Commercial During Duck Dynasty Feb. 19

GAF is excited to announce the inclusion of a national television commercial highlighting GAF Master Elite Contractors as well as GAF Premier Roofing Dealers and Pro-Grade Master Distributors during the Feb. 19 episode of the top-rated show, Duck Dynasty.

Airing on A&E on Wednesdays at 10 p.m. EST, Duck Dynasty is a record-breaking reality show that follows the lives of the Robertson family, who run a family-operated duck call business, Duck Commander. The show has broken several ratings records—last season’s premiere drew 11.8 million viewers, making Duck Dynasty the most-watched nonfiction cable series in history.

“Airing this commercial builds not only the GAF brand but also the brands of our contractors and distributors,” explains Paul Bromfield, senior vice president of marketing and business development at GAF. “This truly demonstrates our commitment to investing in our brand for the benefit of our customers. Airing during a top show with such high viewership supports our position as the industry’s premium brand, helping our customers to create pull-through sales.”

“Being a part of a segment on The Ellen DeGeneres Show is an incredible opportunity,” explains Alyssa Hall, marketing communications manager at GAF. “She is so beloved by her viewers and they truly value any recommendations that she makes on products. And as a company that invests in our branding efforts, we know at GAF that aligning with a force like Ellen DeGeneres will only support our position as the industry’s premium brand, helping our contractors to create pull-through sales.”

After this initial airing, GAF will be featured in several follow-up episodes, which will each be mentioned on the GAF Facebook page.
