DryHome Roofing and Siding donated a new roof to Sterling, Virginia-based Asma Messaoudi, a single mother of four who has a disability, through its 21st annual Free Roof for the Holidays program. Messaoudi was nominated by Loudoun Habitat for Humanity, which helped her buy the home, and the roof was completed on December 13.

“Ms. Messoudi has worked so hard to help buy her home through Loudoun Habitat. We are so pleased that our gift of a roof will enable her to keep her homeowners’ insurance and provide a safe place to live for her family,” explained Steve Gotschi, CEO, DryHome. “Now she can focus on caring for her family and herself since her disability is requiring other costly upgrades to her home.”

Throughout November, Sterling-based DryHome accepted nominations from customers and the community to identify a Northern Virginia individual, family, or nonprofit in need. DryHome selected Messaoudi as the recipient based on her needs and the condition of her roof.

Messaoudi is a disabled single mother of four living on a careful budget. She moved to the United States in 2006 and worked very diligently to purchase her first home through the affordable Homeownership Program with Loudoun Habitat for Humanity in 2016. This fall, her homeowners’ insurance company completed a routine examination of her property and determined that the roof needed to be replaced by mid-December or she would lose her insurance coverage. Loudoun Habitat for Humanity nominated Messaoudi and her family for DryHome’s Free Roof for the Holidays program to relieve the financial burden of replacing her roof thus allowing the other critical repairs inside her home relating to accessibility to be completed.

Loudoun Habitat for Humanity partners with homebuyers, volunteers, donors, businesses and community organizations to transform lives and rebuild communities. Houses are sold at an affordable, no-profit rate to qualified home buyers who earn 30% to 60% of the area median income.  Buyers complete volunteer hours (sweat equity) and attend classes to learn the skills needed to successfully own and maintain a home for the rest of their lives. With the investment in their home, home buyers improve their financial standing and provide stability for their family. As a result, children perform better in school, families feel safer, and neighborhoods improve.

DryHome Roofing and Siding has been serving Northern Virginia for over 35 years and is committed to making a difference in the community.  Every day, DryHome’s work ensures that families and organizations have safe, high-quality roofs.  Its Free Roof for the Holidays program enables DryHome to thank its customers and the community by helping those who are struggling to have a safe roof over their heads too.  Since the program’s inception, the company has donated 22 roofs valued at more than $200,000 back to the community.

Over the years, DryHome has awarded roofs to people and nonprofits across the region with a variety of needs. Last year, nonprofit Pathway Homes received a new roof for one of its houses in Fairfax that is home to adults with mental health challenges. Other past recipients included an Ashburn man struggling with cancer; a Navy veteran who founded an animal therapy nonprofit; a Stafford mother of three who lost her husband; a Vienna mother who was struggling following a difficult divorce; a Leesburg widow and mother of two young children; Cornerstones; an advocate for the homeless; Doorways for Women and Families’ Safehouse;  a Loudoun school bus driver; Good Shepherd Alliance; Falls Church Cub Scout House; and Gabriel Homes.
