NRCA Recognizes Winner of SkillsUSA’s First Roofing Event at National Competition

The National Roofing Contractors Association recognized Kyle Cameron of South Hutchinson, Kansas, as the winner of SkillsUSA’s first national commercial roofing competition held June 21-22 during SkillsUSA’s National Leadership & Skills Conference in Atlanta. Cameron recently finished his junior year at Hutchinson Career and Technical Education Academy.

In 2022, one of NRCA’s initiatives was to help SkillsUSA, an organization with a mission to prepare and empower students for careers in the trades, to incorporate roofing into its national construction skills competition. The National Leadership & Skills Conference brings together thousands of students, instructors and business partners to celebrate the accomplishments of individuals preparing for careers in trade and technical occupations. The event is an opportunity for students to showcase their talents and skills on a national level, and the June conference included roofing for the first time.

For winning the commercial roofing competition, Cameron received a trophy, $1,000 from NRCA and a gold medal from SkillsUSA. Three other students competed in the national contest: Leif Dampf, Virginia Beach, Virginia, placed second; Brandon Lopez, Simpsonville, South Carolina, placed third; and Mia Pulido, Hammond, Indiana, placed fourth.
