O’Donnell Metal Deck announced that it has acquired Tombari Structural Products (TSP) and Metal Deck Direct (MDD), adding the metal deck distribution leaders in the Pacific Northwest and Tennessee to its growing national footprint.
O’Donnell Metal Deck (OMD), an independent distributor of metal deck and steel bar joist in the United States, has major sites in Atlanta, Baltimore, Dallas, Pennsylvania, Phoenix, Spokane, and now Knoxville, Tennessee.
The company acquired Tombari Structural Products, based in Spokane, Washington, in October 2023, followed by the addition of Metal Deck Direct, based in Lenoir City, Tennessee, just outside of Knoxville, one month later.
Together, the companies service steel fabricators and contractors throughout the country. Tombari provides deep experience in larger, more complex projects including those with seismic loads. MDD adds more sales and operations expertise and brings deep relationships in Tennessee and the Southeast and Mid-South.
Slate Capital Group, LLC partnered with management to acquire OMD in 2020 to support the company’s expansion strategy.
Matt Weiss, CEO, O’Donnell Metal Deck, stated, “As we continue to grow our business nationally, we are excited to join forces with Tombari Structural Products and Metal Deck Direct. We will now have a stronger presence in the greater Northwest, Southeast and Midsouth regions, all of which are booming for our business. We are certain that our joint mission of providing quality service will seamlessly continue.”
“We are thrilled to partner with the folks at O’Donnell Metal Deck,” said Mike Tombari, president, Tombari Structural Products. “My parents started this business and will transition into retirement as part of this corporate change. It was important to find the right home for what they started and what we built together. The folks at O’Donnell and Slate Capital Group do business the right way.”
“We’re feeling extremely confident in our new partnership with O’Donnell Metal Deck. When we thought about retirement, we wanted to know that our company and team would be in good hands,” said Keith Urban, president, Metal Deck Direct. “O’Donnell and Slate Capital Group operate their businesses much like we did. They take care of their customers and employees. We can’t wait to see where the merged team takes the organization.”
“Matt Weiss, O’Donnell’s CEO, has a goal to become a world-class, high-touch national player in the deck and joist industry. He and his team are doing just that,” added Corcoran. “With its recent organic growth and strategic M&A partnerships, O’Donnell Metal Deck continues to strengthen its leadership in the industry. The acquisitions of Tombari and MDD makes us truly coast-to-coast.”
Dentons, LLP served as legal advisor for O’Donnell Metal Deck for both acquisitions.
Foster Garvey PC was legal advisor and Capstone Partners the financial advisor for Tombari Structural Products. Elmore, Stone & Caffey, PLLC served as legal advisor for Metal Deck Direct.
