Underlayment Combines SBS Modified Asphalt With Proprietary Acrylic Adhesive

Boral Roofing LLC introduces Boral Acrilay roofing underlayment, an evolutionary underlayment product combining SBS modified asphalt with a proprietary acrylic adhesive. A single-layer system, the new underlayment offers improved adhesion performance compared to options that incorporate asphalt-based adhesives. Boral Acrilay roofing underlayment provides protection from weather stressors including wind and rain. Additionally, the easily applied underlayment reduces installation time, resulting in reduced labor costs.

“The innovation and benefits of the Boral Acrilay roofing underlayment are notable,” said Douglas Thagard, business development manager for Boral Roofing. “Fast and easy installation, incredible adhesion and resiliency against wind-driven rain are all key selling points. In addition, the Boral Acrilay underlayment has a unique smelted slag mineral surface allowing for better and more secure walkability when compared to standard sand surfaces.”

Boral Acrilay roofing underlayment is ideal for use with all Boral Roofing clay, concrete, stone-coated steel and composite roofing solutions, as well as for applications under shingles and most steep slope roofing materials. The underlayment is available in Texas in addition to all western U.S. states.

One of the largest advantages of the acrylic adhesive in the Boral Acrilay roofing underlayment is it will not rapidly degrade or crack over time. The single-layer underlayment can be quickly and easily installed without the use of fasteners, air compressors or other equipment that can cause damage to the roof. For roof slopes over 8:12, back nailing is always recommended for safety. Application of the underlayment is ideal in a wide array of temperatures ranging from 40°F to 240° F. The acrylic adhesive is in its solid state therefore there is no need for heating the material when applying it in cold environments, nor will the material become viscous or sloppy in hot environments. The product is also easy to adjust during application.

With 6-inch strips of adhesive, and release liners to protect the adhesive at the toe and head laps, the underlayment adheres directly to the deck or itself allowing for over 27 inches of non-adhered underlayment between the adhesive strips. In a single-layered application, the bottom lap will have two inches of adhesive applied to the deck and four inches applied to the previous underlayment course. Double-layered installation will lap fully over the previous underlayment course and be adhered to the underlayment surface.

“This is one of the most versatile and resilient underlayments for use under all types of steep slope roof systems,” added Thagard. “The Boral Acrilay roofing underlayment can withstand harsh climate conditions whether hot, cold, humid, wet or dry.”

Boral Acrilayroofing underlayment also comes with a 20-year Limited Warranty for single- and double-layer applications, which is transferable and is not prorated.

The product is offered in 39-and-3/8-inch wide by 61-foot long rolls offering 200 square feet of product.
